If the sun could just stay shining for a little bit longer each day then I’d be able to produce more lovely buckets of colourful blooms like this one.

Flower farming is not for the faint hearted 🥵.
Justine from and I worked all day in getting her top bed rotivated and planted with dahlias. 225 dahlias in total. Some healthy & some slug stricken ones. But fingers crossed they’ll all be blooming soon. Watch this space.

Just have to share these beautiful, uniquely individual wreaths from my workshops. I like to offer a wide variety of foliage whether that be in colour or texture. I try to buy British where possible but also use where they have a fantastic selection of spruce & eucalyptus and an excellent selection of sundries. I also bought some fantastic British foliage from as well as hand made willow bases from . Once the wreaths have been greened up then comes the fun part. All the flowers & grasses that I have grown over the season and dried like strawflowers, statice, hydrangeas, frosted explosion, feather top, poppy heads, alliums to name but a few are poked or wired into the wreaths. All wreaths are finished off with a velvet bow. So lovely to walk around my local area and see these creations hung proudly on their doors.

Back in September, I was asked to do Jen & Paddy’s wedding flowers. Jen was the most delightful & laid back bride, she knew exactly what she wanted & had absolute faith in me to create natural whimsical bouquets to compliment her woodland themed wedding Here are just a few photos of her magical day.
She had 11 bridesmaids and needed 12 buttonholes. As well a two church pedestals & dressing a bandstand.
Thankfully I had my right hand woman Justine .flowers with me, and her wedding floral expertise to help me dress the bandstand in the woods.
I must also mention that none of the above would of been possible without my amazing fellow flower farmers who helped by providing some of their gorgeous blooms to mix in with m own.
So thank you and .flowers

I just love it when my customers are excellent photographers.
And I absolutely loved doing this 50th birthday dinner party. I was able to use my second flush of roses which smelt heavenly. Obviously lots of dahlias, rudbeckias and sunflowers. And for foliage I raided the sage & mint bushes. And lots of little extras like amaranthus, scabiosa, achillea, fuschia, grasses. All in recycled pickle jars with a hessian trim.

As we are celebrating I thought I would share June’s flowers
I love doing these weekly arrangements. Every Tuesday evening I head out into the garden to see what looks best for cutting. I never know how the arrangement is going to turn out. I am lead by the flowers and that’s what I love.
This month started with all whites; ammi majus, foxgloves, euphorbia & mint, then it was a rainbow assortment of foxgloves, followed by a mixed arrangement of Canterbury bells, salvia, godetia & nigella, and I finished the month off with soft lemon yellows, aubergine & whites.
It’s fantastic to see businesses like The Artichoke supporting & promoting British flowers. British grown flowers are good for humans, bees, birds, bugs and butterflies. They have excellent vase life as they are cut fresh & haven’t had to travel thousands of miles so have no carbon footprint. They are scented & free from pesticides and often provide florist with blooms that aren’t offered at wholesale. You can find your local flower farmer via the Flowers From The Farm website.

Met the amazingly talented Lydia from today. I was hired to do the flowers for a christening & she made the most stunning christening cake I’ve ever seen. I provided her with some of my flowers to dress the cake which included; David Austin roses, nigella, eucalyptus, wrinkled cress & bunny tails. Thankfully the venue had excellent air conditioning so both flowers & cake didn’t wilt or melt.

I think I have a problem. Already potted up over 100 dahlias and completely forgot I had ordered more from . Oops! Loving the free cotton bag.
Off to rummage for some pots to plant them up in! No idea where I’m going to fit them all but heard another flower farmer saying that she plants her in crates after she’s used them for tulips. So definitely giving that a go!

Back in January I attended held in Bristol. There were various speakers talking about growing flowers, how to make them profitable, how to market them, photograph them, the wedding market etc etc.
It was a fantastic opportunity to meet fellow growers and listen & learn from the masters of their field. One of which was Rachel Siegfried from . She gave an amazing talk on sizing up your plot and the advantage of investing in perennials. She mentioned her up and coming book due to be published in March and mine arrived today!!!! Can’t wait for bedtime tonight where I shall be tucked up in my duvet reading The Cut Flower Sourcebook.

Day 20 - Last Day of …..🙌

Tell us again who you are and why customers should buy flowers from you?

My name is Victoria Green and I started growing cut flowers in my back garden a few years ago which I shared with friends & family.
Due to popular demand I set up and now sell jam jar flowers, gift bouquets & DIY buckets for weddings within the Amersham area.

If you appreciate flowers that have that ‘just picked’ fresh from the garden look then I’m the lady for you.
Not one bouquet resembles the next. The garden dictates what will go in each bunch depending on what is in bloom on that particular day. And I merely assemble them so that their natural form is enhanced. Each bouquet will bounce, quiver, ooze colour & fragrance and hopefully bring joy to the receiver.
(And not a single stem has flown half way round them world be to on your kitchen table. )

So if you appreciate local products and what to support small businesses please get in touch via Instagram.
I shall be selling my flowers from April through to October. 💐💐💐💐

Day 19 How do you plan to be more sustainable this year. I love this challenge. I consider myself to be very resourceful. I love reusing or up cycling other people’s unwanted possessions. My no dig cutting garden was built using all my neighbours unwanted cardboard boxes!! I would do weekly drive bys on bin days and pick up other peoples recycling. All my wood chip pathways are made using the waste of our local hedge cutters who are more than happy to dump some on my drive. All my plastic pots are washed and reused every year as are the takeaway boxes that I pop my soil blocks into. Last year my Christmas wreath bases were handmade out of willow so that they could be reused every year. And my candle displays were made with chicken wire and moss. This year shall be no different. I’m going to attempt to make my own compost as well as comfrey & nettle liquid feeds. All my bouquets are wrapped in brown paper and string, no plastic wrap! And I always try to source products like compost or plants from local suppliers. Last year I even started saving seeds from nigella, cornflower, malope & larkspur so I’m very excited to see how they grow.

Day 17 When do you hope to be open for the public to see your flowers in 2023. Fingers crossed 🤞 if I can keep the muntjac 🦌 off them, I should have tulips by the end of March/ beginning April. My flowering season will end with dahlias mid to late October. I will also be doing wreath classes in December. As well as my own wreaths, table arrangements & garlands. Roll on Spring!

Week 4: YOUR FLOWERS - AND PLANS FOR THEM IN 2023. Day 16 - How do you sell your flowers and who to? Selling my flowers is the hardest part of my job. Thankfully Instagram has been a fantastic social media platform for me to advertise as it lets people know what I do based on visual images & reels. Often customers will message me asking for a bouquet as a result of seeing a recent post or story. They can arrange to collect their bouquet from my home in Amersham or I can deliver it within the local area for a small fee. I occasionally pop up at the odd market in Amersham but currently do not have a permanent stall anywhere although I’m looking into local farmers market. With regards to my customers, I have developed a lovely local following. These people appreciate the time & effort taken in growing the flowers, they want to support small businesses and generally love everything about British flowers as they remind them of their childhood or grandparents garden. People tend to buy my flowers as gift bouquets for friends or family who are celebrating a special occasion. I think this is because my flowers are very different to those you find in a florist. They have they own unique wildness & provide curiosity and intrigue to the receiver who may never of seen nigella, corncockle or sweet peas in an arrangement before. I love getting to meet my customers where possible as so many of them love nothing better than chatting for hours about flowers which I am more than happy to indulge in!

20/01/2023

Day 15 . The plant that has a special meaning for you. Friends & family will agree that I’m not a very sentimental person so this was a challenging question. So although it’s not necessarily my favourite flower I have chosen the cornflower. This photo is the very first ever picture I took of the very first flower I ever grew. And yes it was the cornflower. So I guess if I were being sentimental I would say that the cornflower has the most meaning as it will always remind me of the day I fell in love with growing flowers.

19/01/2023

Day 14 What would you like your customers to ask for? This year I am trying a new technique of growing my tulips in crates to save on field space. I have planted approx 4900 bulbs in various varieties from doubles, parrots, lily and fringed. So very excited to share them all with everyone. They will be available from the beginning of April. I shall be offering weekly subscriptions every Friday so message me if you’re interested. After the tulips come the ranunculus and again I’m trying every colour available from an amazing supplier I grew them last year but my first crop which I planted in my poly tunnel was a total fail. The stems were weak and they were covered in green fly. My 2nd crop that was planted directly outside was much healthier so I have opted this year to plant them all outside and just cover when we have a cold spell. So for all you ranunculus lovers I’m hoping to be able to offer you lovely colourful bunches by the end of April and all through May.

Day 13 Which plant is new to you this season? This is a ni...
18/01/2023

Day 13 Which plant is new to you this season? This is a nice easy question. New for me this year is cynoglossum amabile otherwise known as Chinese Forget me not and panicum elegans frosted explosion. Very excited to see how the Chinese forget-me-nots turn out, reason for growing them is I love a little bit of accent blue in my bouquets and there are very few blue flowers in the world. So giving this one a go. And frosted explosion is just a fantastic dried grass, my wreath makers loved it this year, I was very fortunate to be given some by Nicola so am determined to grow my own this year. Todays photo was taken this morning as I had to deliver my seasonal arrangements to The Artichoke restaurant and Roxy came with.

Day 11 Top of my list. Being a fairly new flower farmer means that not enough time has elapsed for me to developed well rooted/established focal flowers like roses & peonies for cutting from. So I heavily rely on ranunculus & tulips for spring and dahlias for my summer as my wow factor in bouquets.
Other flowers that were new to me last year and are now on my forever list are:
Bronze fennel, alchemilla mollus, wrinkle crinkle cress, bells of Ireland, sweet rocket and nepeta. All of these provide either texture, accent colour, movement, and structure to my bouquets.

16/01/2023

Day 11 . Do you have any specialities?
I grow on a tiny plot so can’t really grow any one particular variety in any great abundance so instead I grow a little of everything and the wilder the better. I love stems that contort, twist & bounce. The beauty of being a British flower farmer is we can grow the flowers you find in cottage style gardens that you will not find in any florist shop. Particular favourites are nigella, cornflowers, nepeta, corncockle, ammi, daucus, soapwort, fennel, I could go on. Things that I would like to specialise in and be better at growing are antirrhinum & stocks.
