Congratulations Miss I. Gold in your new contemporary. This one was a challenge as it had ‘no bling’. It started with a white base then gradually built up the autumnal colours, yellow to brown. X

Pricing of costumes;
Please remember that the price charged for costumes includes,
I will base this on an ‘average’ lyrical costume (I will cover tutus separately).

Lycra - roughly 1m = £10 (can be £7-£24pm)
Lining - 1m = £9
Cotton = £5
Overlocker thread = £28
Elastic = £5
Pattern paper = £3
Appliqués = £15
rhinestones and decoration £15 min
Electric, heating, insurance, sewing machines (average per costume) £10

Total £75 - some items haven’t had to be purchased as they are in stock but they have still had to be bought.

Process
Measuring, home visit or messages 1hr
Pattern making 1hr
Cutting 1-2hrs
Sewing 4-7hrs
Decorating 7-10hrs

12-19hrs
12 hours at minimum wage (£10.42) = £125.04
19 hours = £197.98

Obviously some costume makers are able to buy in bulk to save money. If this is their only form of income please realize they have to make a living.

This is the true cost of a costume! Please be kind to your costume maker

❤️Please be kind to your costume makers.

❤️Most of us are individuals, not large companies.

❤️We have families to look after, some of us have children too, who need our time and attention, we have meals to prepare, dishes to wash, clothes to wash, iron and put away.

❤️We have emotions.

❤️We have complex lives like everyone else.

❤️We only have 24 hours in the day, 8 of those should be spent sleeping, 4 or 5 of those are spent tending to our families.

❤️Most of us also work another job as making costumes alone isn’t enough to keep a roof over our heads.

❤️Sometimes we work 18-20 hour days.

❤️We often take our work home, and put it first over family time.

❤️ We are creative people, who work our best when we are allowed freedom to do what we do best - create. When clients want full control over a design, down to individual stone placement or the exact centimetre of trim placement, this stems our creativity and often leads to work that isn’t as perfect as we want it to be.
❤️ Please trust your costume maker’s creative skills. You chose the maker because you like their work. You trust their skills.
❤️ We all have our own styles, this is what makes our costumes so unique. Please don’t ask a costume maker to make something in the style of another maker.
❤️ Costumes and tutus can sometimes take
up to and over 24hr hours to make . Please respect that your maker deserves an hourly rate that reflects their skill level. Keep in mind that national living wage is £9.50ph. Makers have many years of experience and should be respectfully paid above this rate.
❤️ A custom tutu is not a couture wedding dress. If you would like control over every single aspect, please be prepared to pay for this service.
❤️We all deserve respect.

In the light of various situations, I have made the difficult decision to take NO more bookings for costumes/ tutus for the time being. Anyone who has a booking will be ok. However please PM me to ensure that you are on the list and for an updated quote, as prices have had to go up.

Please be patient. My machine is currently out of action so orders will be held up. I will endeavour to get everything completed and the spare parts sent asap.
