Jessica spent part of her childhood in Denmark. From there she picked up the tradition of having ‘Risalamande’ on Christmas eve.
This is a delicious creamy rice pudding with chopped almonds. One almond is left whole and whoever gets this receives a special prize.

As Jonathan is a member of the Ramsay family he had wonderful memories of Christmas’s with his grandparents in Kinblethmont House. He told tales of family gatherings in the drawing room with his grandfather playing the piano, as the family settled in by the roaring open fire.
Jonathan loves a lobster as part of his Christmas table and with Kinblethmont being situated on the Angus coast, we have some of the finest locally sourced lobsters on our doorstep.

Since hosting Christmas, to Ed Christmas means perfecting the perfect roast potato. Ed’s wife is from the Netherlands so Ed’s family Christmas’s incorporate many Dutch traditions such as Sinterklaas. Sinterklaas does not arrive with a reindeer and sleigh he arrives on a white horse and children leave their shoes by the fire for Sinterklaas to leave gifts and treats. Speculaas spiced biscuits often in the shape of Sinterklaas are enjoyed along with Olliebollen at New Years.

Gem who loves all things weddings, loves a good tablescape, festive decorations and a crisp, frosty, sunfilled morning of a Kinblethmont winter Wedding 👰‍♀️🎩
A highlight of Christmas’s past was her son’s primary school nativity when Aidan was one of the 3 kings but wanted to be the donkey! and his face says it all.
As a child Christmas meant being bundled into the car in her pyjama’s for the long drive to Nottingham to spend Christmas with her grandparents, wondering how would Santa Claus find her and her brother when they wasn’t at home 🤷‍♀️ but thankfully he always did.

What does Christmas mean to you? Did you have a winter wedding?

To Jim Christmas is about family fun and having a laugh and a joke, he is always upto something, he loves a box, in a box, in a box presents or wrapping them so tightly in sellotape that it is a task for all the family to open. Even his picture below has a spot the dog 🐶.

Laura loves cooking and creating a tasty feast for her family, for Laura Christmas means having all her boys home, together and lots of empty plates.
Whether this be a Beef Wellington or a Gamon joint as Laura is not a fan of Turkey.
After dinner there is always time for some festive games and lots of fun and laughter.

Marius is originally from Slovakia. Marius celebrates Christmas on December 24th (Christmas Eve) when his family gather together to share a meal and exchange gifts. The Christmas Eve dinner consists traditionally of many dishes but mainly fish.
Christmas treats such as “Medovniky” honey spiced cookies and pastries are baked and enjoyed.
Christmas gifts are delivered to the children by baby Jesus, who comes through the window when they are not looking and places the gifts under the Christmas tree during dinner, to be opened after the meal.
Apples are cut to reveal a star which determines the happiness and health of the family for the forthcoming year. There is also a tradition of throwing Loksa pudding at the ceiling to predict how lucky the family will be, the more pudding that sticks the luckier the family will be in the forthcoming year.

Fiona our Farm Office Manager didn’t realise just what a key part of Christmas her little butter Snowman and Santa figures were until the year she didn’t manage to get them and she saw the disappointment on her teenage/adult daughters faces. These cheery little characters have now become a family tradition and an essential part of the Christmas table.

It’s funny what little things can become a significant part of Christmas and what we remember of our own childhood christmases.
