Happy National Dandelion day!

I have always thought that dandelions are not only a useful little flower but also a very cheerful one! And of course it is great fun to blow the seeds heads off them!

When we celebrate we often use flowers to decorate our venues. We also use them in our ceremonies, either as our wedding bouquet or as part of a mini ceremony such as a Rose ceremony. Whilst I am not suggesting that you use dandelions in your wedding bouquet it is lovely to stop and think about what flowers are in season around the time of your celebration and whether there are any you could grow in your own garden. Not only will this save you money but it will also help make your wedding more ecologically sustainable, which I believe is important.

In my wedding bouquet I had corn flowers which were in season at the time and which we grew and then picked from our garden. I do wonder if I would sneak a dandelion into my wedding bouquet now as I have many happy memories of them, not only from my own childhood but from being presented with many 'bouquets' of them over the years, not just from my daughter but also from many other children who I have had the privilege of knowing.

This fine bouquet is a gift from my daughter.

Do you have a favourite flower, or a flower that brings back happy memories for you that you plan on incorporating into your celebration flowers?

Happy International Women’s Day

These are the wonderful woman that I have the pleasure of journeying through life with. I always think that the biggest gift my parents ever gave me, was my sisters 💕

Every year we all get together to do some Christmas crafting so this is us all making our rag wreaths. It was lovely this year as my niece joined us for the first time. There is another couple of young women to join us in the next few years when they are old enough. I think it is such an honour and privilege to watch the children in our family grow into such wonderful young adults.

Who are the amazing women in your lives?

Today is 'Baby Sleep Day'
Highlighting the importance of sleep to babies.
Anyone who has been a parent is fully aware of the challenges of an over tired child and how important naps times are in those early years!
By working together when planning your baby's naming ceremony, we can ensure that your baby gets the nap they need, meaning you all have a wonderful day. Even if this means delaying the start time of your ceremony for a little while so your baby can finish their nap!
Sweet dreams little one. xx

Tomorrow is 'walking the dog day'.
Now despite my daughter's sustained campaign in this area we still don't have a dog in our family, but we do have other much loved family pets!
Pets can in many ways become part of our family and for some of us we would love to include them in our special occasion. Whether you want your dog as a ring bearer at your wedding ceremony, your parrot to fly in your vows at your vow renewal ceremony, or your tortoise to be part of your naming ceremony, we can make this happen.
What ways can you think of to include your pets at your ceremony?

Now I am good at many things but I wouldn't say that technology is one of my major strengths! 😆
However, I am feeling rather proud of myself because despite all the challenges over the last couple of weeks I have done it! My website is up. 😊
Do pop on over and have a little look at it and if I can help you with creating your wedding or naming ceremony, please just drop me a line.
Now the only thing left to so is figure out how to get it to link to my google business profile! 🤔

Hello,
It's lovely to be back.
After taking some time off for personal reasons I am now looking forward to lots more lovely celebrations and ceremonies in 2024.
Have you got a special celebration this year?

Honouring those who can’t be with us.

Sometimes, for many different reasons, those who we love are not able to be with us on our special day.

You might want to honour these missing loved ones in your ceremony. There are many different ways this can be done, some can make a statement or be quite obvious and others can be more subtle and maybe only those in the know will be aware of them.

There is no right or wrong way to honour those who can’t be with you, just the right way for you.

As I get to know you, I can suggest ideas that might work for you and your family and together we can create a special way of honouring those who you love.

I just love this way of honouring a missing grandparent. Their favourite flower, a sunflower, tucked into the bouquet. Meaning the memory of this grandparent was able to accompany this bride down the aisle in a tangible way. 🌻

Such lovely feedback received today from a gorgeous wedding at the end of September.

I just loved creating this ceremony it had all my loves in it; unity ceremonies, personalisation, humour, joy, amazing readings and a stunning venue. And Ben, Danni and all their friends and family were just a complete joy to work with. Thank you for trusting me to be your celebrant.

It seems a really obvious thing to say but honestly the loveliest ceremonies are the ones that are really personal.

I am often asked ‘Well what normally happens?’ And while I am always happy to answer this question I also like to encourage you to think about what works for you.

As a couple or family you are unique, so what is it that works for you? What is important to you? And what is meaningful to you?

Often when people talk about personalising they will talk about the signs or the keepsakes but I am talking about other things. The way you walk in to your ceremony, the way you honour those who can’t be there, the music you choose, the in jokes that are shared or the personalised unity ceremony. Creating a ceremony that truly reflects you and that isn’t the same as anyone else’s creates wonderful memories for all.

So don’t forget to keep your day personal. 😊

How beautiful is this detail?

This is a gorgeous tag on the end of hand tying cords. A beautiful addition for a couple with a love of nature and perfectly complementing a tree planting later in the ceremony.

I so love helping couples incorporate and personalise unity ceremonies . They add extra significance and power to such an important life moment and a life long reminder of the promises that you make on your special day.

If you want to know more about unity ceremonies, please do get in touch.

This is something I truly believe.

Love isn't a finite resource, it is something that grows the more that it is shared.

I always put love into my ceremonies. I only do a few each year as I want to get to know each couple and and family that I work with well, so that you feel happy, safe and confident that your ceremony is my focus.

What have you got planned?

It is my little Monkey's birthday coming up so we have lots of birthday celebrations planned for over the next few days. Years seem to pass so quickly when children are little, although the days can often feel long! 😉

What is a Naming ceremony?

A naming ceremony is a gathering that can be big or small, where you celebrate the little person that has arrived into your life.

The nearest equivalent is a Christening but a Naming ceremony is more personal and need not contain any religious content.

Your child can be officially gifted their name, guide parents can make promises and meaningful unity ceremonies can be carried out such as lighting a candle. The choice is yours.

If this is something you would be interested in please do get in touch for a chat to explore how you would like to celebrate.

Let’s celebrate this most momentous of life’s milestones. 😊

Words have power, which is why I choose the words for my ceremonies so carefully.

And it is always so special when wedding guests take the time to seek you out after a ceremony, to let you know how much they enjoyed the ceremony and how beautiful they thought the words were. 😊

Why have a naming ceremony?

You may have heard about a naming ceremony, but wondered why you should have one.

A naming ceremony is a wonderful way to celebrate and welcome a child coming into your life. It is a perfect way to celebrate by gathering all your friends and family together.

The closest equivalence is a Christening but a Naming ceremony is much more personal and reflective of your beliefs and values and need not have any religious content.

It’s perfect for babies and older children, and for children joining a family through birth or through adoption.

If you would like to know more just drop me a message and we can have a chat.

Couples and families sometimes wonder why I ask:

Do you have a colour theme for your celebration?

I’m not being nosy, I promise!
I just want to make sure that the certificates, presentation copies of scripts and any other details fit with your colour theme. It’s important to me, that all aspects of your ceremony help you to celebrate in the way that reflects you.

Such lovely feedback after a planning meeting.

This is how I want every one of my couples and families to feel about their ceremony. Filled with excited anticipation.

If you aren’t feeing this way about your ceremony and you are planning a registrar led ceremony, do consider a celebrant led one instead, they are so different.

My ceremonies are enjoyed not endured. 😊

Friday is an office day for me. Before I was a celebrant I didn’t realise work could be fun!

I have had the pleasure today of working on a fabulous script for a September wedding and with getting the preparations ready for next weekend’s wedding. With a spot of lunch on the patio in the sun, it has been a great day. 😊

Kind words.

This feedback after a recent catch up call with the loveliest of brides whose wedding is in the next couple of weeks, made me cry.

I really care about how all my couples feel. I want planning your wedding to be a joy filled experience, full of excitement and anticipation. Not a stressful experience and definitely not one where you are worried about any aspect of your ceremony.

Which is why this feedback made me cry. As how you feel is as important to me as any other aspect of your ceremony.

B&G I am so looking forward to your wedding it is going to be beautiful. Xx

Behind the scenes peak!

Working from home sometimes requires some creativity of thought!

I have discovered the best way to carry out online consultations is by putting my iPad on my daughter’s ecological greenhouse, leaning it against my watering can and putting white paper over the window to filter the light! Leaving me lots of desk space and my computer to make any notes I need to take. Perfect 👍

What creative ways have you learnt from working from home?

Also note to self: purchase an iPad stand! 😂

D - Dress and Decor

These contribute to the overall feel of your day and will make you and your venue feel special.

Think about how to personalise them to make them even more meaningful.

🌟 You could incorporate your parents’ and grandparents’ favourite flowers into the displays?
🌟 Or you could wear the veil your mum wore on her wedding day?
🌟 Maybe you could have your wedding date sewn into the hem of your dress?

There are so many ways you can add hidden meaning into your dress and decor. Please do share your ideas below.

Summer seems to be well and truly here, with this weekend set to be a scorcher! ☀️

If you are celebrating this weekend it might be wise to make a few adjustments to ensure that both you and your guests have a wonderful celebration. Speak to your celebrant, venue and co-ordinator, they will be able to help you.

Some things to consider:
☀️ If you are planning on holding your ceremony outside see if you can set up your ceremony space in the shade, maybe under a tree or in the shade of an outbuilding. No one wants to be sitting out in the full sun at the hottest park of the day, sticking to their seat!
☀️Set a water table up next to your ceremony space so your guests can stay hydrated before and after you ceremony. All you need is a table, some jugs of iced water and some glasses. Your guests will really appreciate it.
☀️Make sure there is a cool space for people to retreat to if they are beginning to struggle with the heat, maybe an air conditioned room, or some comfy chairs in the shade.
☀️Be aware that metal seating, if it has been sat out in the sun for a while, will be hot! To prevent burnt butts, set out your chairs at the last minute and provide seat cushions!
☀️Be aware of how hydrate you are. It is very easy in thick wedding dresses and suits, while celebrating with alcohol to become dehydrated, so make sure you keep drinking that water too.
☀️If necessary consider sourcing electric fans and air coolers to help you all keep cool.
☀️Or place hand held battery fans or pretty paper fans on tables for guests to cool themselves. And if you want to be a super host why not to pop some sun cream out too.
☀️Citronella candles are also something you might want to consider to keep those flies and insects at bay come the evening.
☀️Keep an eye on your flower arrangements as they can wilt in the heat and might need a top up of water. It is also a good idea to ask your venue for a small vase of water to pop your bouquet in when not in use, so it also doesn’t wilt.
☀️Finally, consider where you cake is set up and make sure it is in a cool space. You don’t want the icing to start melting in the heat.

Hopefully these tips will help you to have a wonderful day. 😊

Letter C - your celebrant

Obviously I think that this is one of the most important decisions you will make! 😊

Your celebrant will be the person who will create your ceremony, the ceremony YOU have been dreaming of. They are the person who will help you to make your ceremony personal, bespoke and a true reflection of you.

They will make your ceremony the start of your celebration, not the bit to get through before you start to celebrate.

It was an immense honour and privilege to be invited to observe the lovely and very talented today as she conducted a beautiful ceremony . Followed by a drink and a catch up in the pub after. 😊

Learning from and sharing with other celebrants collaboratively, benefits everyone as great ideas and practices can be shared making your ceremonies even better. 🎉

As we say in our house ‘Teamwork makes the dream work!’

I am so lucky to know some really lovely and talented local celebrants and if I am not available for your date, I am more than happy to recommend to you some equally amazing celebrants. 😊

Thanks Jamie for an amazing day. Xx

06/07/2022

Wedding ceremonies and naming ceremonies are not just about the coming together of a couple or the arrival of a new baby. They are also about the coming together of two families, creating a larger richer and more diverse family.

Such important life milestones deserve to be marked and celebrated and it is lovely if these celebrations and ceremonies can include wider members of the family. Marking the significance of this milestone on not just the couple, but also on the wider family.

This can be something small such as incorporating your grandparents favourite flowers into your bouquet and button holes or something bigger like the grandparents making promises to support their newest grandchild in a naming ceremony.
