Medway Centre

Medway Centre Bakewell's Medway Community Centre in the heart of the Peak District has great facilities that all members of the community, young and old, can use.

The New Medway Centre was built to replace the old prefabricated Medway Centre that had to be demolished in 1992. After years of fundraising, many meetings to gain planning permission and a £148,000 grant from the Rural Development Commission, work began by a team of local volunteers, mainly pensioners, to build the new Centre in February 1998. abour later, the Centre was officially opened by the Duchess of Devonshire on the 17th July 1999. For the first time in many years, Bakewell at last had a purpose-built centre for the community. The Centre is owned and managed by it's members and volunteers and employs an Administrator. The Centre relies on volunteer support to assist with the management, maintenance and fundraising. Free First Session! Is your child musical? Would you love them to start learning the piano, or even to read music? If you're looking for something for the kids to do over the summer, Dogs and Birds at Bakewell are introducing extra classes on a Monday afternoon - a summer school programme with the option to continue in the Autumn.

The Dogs and Birds Piano method is renowned for helping young children learn music and it's fun. No stuffy lessons or learning by rote. Instead, it uses puppets, singing, drumming, coloured staves, clapping, tapping and games to help children pick up music with ease.

Founded by Hungarian piano teacher Elza Lusher, who has been teaching for over 30 years, and her husband Chris, sessions are held at The Medway Centre, Bakewell.

Starting on 29th July, sessions are 3 pm for age 4-5, and
5 pm for age 6-7, and are 30 minutes long . Come and try us out for free. After that, classes are £6 per session.

Help your pre-school child learn the piano – first session free!

The Dogs and Birds Piano method has now moved to Bakewell! Founded by Hungarian piano teacher Elza Lusher and her husband Chris, and developed over the last 20 years, we teach children aged 3-5 to play the piano and learn music. We use puppets, coloured tiles and staves, singing, playing, drumming and improvisation to make it engaging and fun.

Group piano sessions are 30 mins for 3-4 years (£5) and 40 mins for 4-5 years old (£6). Come and try us out! Sessions are held at the Medway Centre, Bakewell on Monday afternoons, starting from 15 April. Initially sessions will be from 2:15 pm to 2:45 pm, and 3:50 pm to 4:30 pm.

Message us or email [email protected] to book your spot, before places fill up.
