M I N D T H E C A T

An absolutely crazy week!!! Every year I swear I’ll never do it again, but I’ve had so many beautiful messages today from happy mummies/happy senders it makes it all worthwhile.

I planned a lazy Mother’s Day after days on my feet & what did I do just before this photo - tripped up the stairs & over the cat & broke my toe. Very thankful this didn’t happen any earlier but also grateful for a big old excuse to sit with my feet up.

A huge thanks has to go to Louise from Rosebud bakes, Rosie from Angels Unaware (Rosie McKnight) and Naomi from My Painted Bear for working together to make so many Mother’s Days extra special. A massive thanks to all who ordered - the craic at collections was mighty and then I had to step in deliver this weekend so it was lovely to see so many lovely doorstep smiles. A big rainbow shone across the sky last night as Jonah & I got home - so anyone in the storm right now, hold out for your rainbow 🌈

T R E A T T I M E

I planned a little treat for you all for International Women’s Day so here it is (a few days late!!)

If you know me, you know I’m a huge champion of us girls!!! I was raised by a strong, compassionate mum, influenced massively by an independent take-no-nonsense granny, inspired by a fun-loving go-getting sister & carried daily by the laughs & love of fiercely loyal girlfriends ❤️❤️

So in our annual Mother’s Day tradition, I want to treat an amazing woman one of our packages. W I N D O F C H A N G E

Six years ago, I was in work & went into a shop to buy electric for a client experiencing difficulties. I noticed cards for sale as I queued and at the time I was awaiting fertility treatment. I was hurting, broken and hiding a deep sadness from everyone around me. I picked up this card which simply spoke into my circumstances. It was the first time I saw a card that expressed raw honesty and echoed the sometimes difficult reality of everyday life.

When I starting planning for Rainbow and Rose, I knew I had to approach Naomi from My Painted Bear as I thought nothing would be more perfect to accompany my bouquets. For the last 3 years, we have forged a beautiful friendship & when Naomi recently approached me about coming to work for her to expand her business further, I couldn’t refuse the amazing opportunity!!

This does mean things will have to change for Rainbow and Rose. We never intended to be a 24/7 florist & although demand created it, it can make a work/life balance very difficult to maintain. So in this season of change, we have shifted our focus to subscription flowers every month & event flowers. Any additional bouquet availability will be posted live on our social media.

We have already a growing pre-order list for our popular Mother’s Day collaboration & hope to continue to bring you new & innovative ways of delivering ‘love’ every month 🌈🌹

Christmas 2022 has been crazy busy!!!! We are extremely thankful for all your orders & support. We didn’t even get the chance to advertise our Christmas bouquets & trees as we sold out with pre-orders ❤️❤️

When you are given the opportunity to love something or someone, do it!!! Regardless of the what it costs!!! We took a massive risk almost seven years ago welcoming this wee man into our family. After years of abuse, he was so traumatised that we didn’t even think we could give him a home for a week. Even though he drove us insane & tasted the blood of most people within a mile radius, Max brought with him so much love & loyalty. We are so thankful we got to love him & to help him heal from all the wrongs done to him in the past. Run free wee man & thank you for teaching us all the importance of how love never gives up 💙💙💙

We put our decorations up yesterday with a Christmas Movie marathon so we can confirm Christmas Mode has been activated. The Most Wonderful Time of the Year - but equally the most hectic!!

We are attempting to be super organised this year wrapping up the last few orders for wreaths in the next few days. We have a couple of remaining slots for collection on the 3rd December and once they’re gone, they’re gone!! The 26th collection date is SOLD OUT as are our SWAGS.

Remember our wreaths are packed full of locally grown eucalyptus and 40-45cm so will blow the socks off your Christmas guests. If you’d like to secure one of the last few wreaths, please send a message asap. No restocks or last minute orders this year!!

We have worked with local producers to source the freshest eucalyptus - creating a premium product - but also working tirelessly to keep costs down for you the customer. We recognise 2022 has been a difficult year for so many so we’ve got creative to make sure we are competitively priced. ** Please also note that a donation from each wreath will go to support the essential work of the Simon Community this Christmas. C H R I S T M A S W R E A T H

Our bespoke wreaths will be lovingly created with two styles - MODERN and TRADITIONAL. Each wreath is packed full of locally grown varieties of scented eucalyptus. Trust us - the smell is divine!!!! The wreaths are 40-45cm in diameter so will create the WOW factor for your Christmas door and will dry naturally over time.

Our MODERN wreath epitomises the wildness and beauty of our gorgeous wee part of the world with it’s shades of green and blue. With the addition of bog myrtle, limonium, berries, dried lotus heads, pheasant feathers, cinnamon and nature-inspired decoration, this wreath is guaranteed be a head turner.

Our TRADITIONAL wreath incorporates everything we associate with the season. From pine cones, cinnamon sticks and dried oranges, to the red berries we know and love, this beautiful wreath will echo our Christmas decor and we will complete the look with a hand-tied Christmas bow.

Both wreaths are priced at £50.

Echoing our wreaths, our swags will also incorporate both styles of MODERN and TRADITIONAL. Using the same locally grown eucalyptus for our base, alongside locally grown Sussex and fir, our swags will be adorned with various decorations matching your chosen style and completed with a hand-tied ribbon.

Our swags are priced at £35.

Wreaths and swags this year will be collection ONLY from our studio in TEMPLEPATRICK. We plan on hosting two Christmas collection events - Saturday 26th November and Saturday 3rd December between 4-6pm. All customers will be invited to come and select their bespoke wreath while enjoying some Christmas music, Christmas treats and drinks. There will also be some additional gift options and local crafts available at each session.

M U M L I F E

Nursery has been such a joy for Jonah - not so much for us as he has become the biggest germ magnet known to man!!!! We had lots of plans for his first half term & instead both him & his daddy have been unwell.

I can’t complain as the one reason I work my fingers to the bone to run a small business is that in these moments, I can be present. I can be mummy - and nurse - and cleaner/cook/entertainer/dog walker/bin emptier/temperature taker & everything in between. Including having a sticking plaster of a child who doesn’t want me more than 37cm from him at ALL TIMES!!!

This does mean that fresh flowers will have to wait until next week. But we’ll be launching our Christmas 2022 plans at The Wee Village Charity Night on Thursday night & already have a busy week of fresh bouquets to deliver.

Thanks for being so understanding - our customers & their loyalty is just the biggest spirit lifter on days like today. Any other mummy out there struggling this week because you haven’t crafted or baked fresh buns or even managed to get out of jammies by lunchtime - know it’s ok to just simply be mummy this week. B A C K T O P O R R I D G E

In order to help me through the next day or two when Jonah starts nursery & this unexpected emotional fragility I feel, I’ve been thinking about primary school. Walking Jonah to the same school I went to has brought back some memories…..

I remember fun filled days where the most pressure you would feel was when you were being chased in Catchy Kissies (called numerous things throughout NI) or your mum forgot your 10am snack bag of yellow pack crisps.

I came home from my first day of school with rhyming words in a to***co tin (I still remember the smell) & some freshly hand-copied sheets that had purple ink. My school bag was a wee leather satchel & my lunch box had a flask that never held anything hot other than lukewarm diluted orange 🤮

The days when how long your daisychain was all that mattered. The days when toilet paper had dual use as tracing paper. The days when you were raging you had school dinners as it was fish cakes, ice-cream scoop potatoes & prunes & pink custard for lunch. The days when the Little Professor could answer all of the hardest questions and the days where biggest upset was opening ‘number 6’ on the paper fortune teller and finding out you had a boyfriend.

Going into this new chapter, I want Jonah to experience as much of the innocence & fun as I did. I highly doubt he’ll dread prunes for lunch or his white school shirt being 3x too big but he will have his moments & wobbles. But my biggest hope for his ‘school days’ is that his best lessons will be to be kind and compassionate and that the best fun to be had is running around like an eejit with your friends with your school coat pinned round your neck as a cape.

Fresh flowers are back from tomorrow morning so we are both back to porridge on the same day. Hope this walk down memory lane wipes away any tears you may shed….

P A U S E & S L O W D O W N

Summer is rapidly coming to a close. We have enjoyed every second of filling so many hearts & homes with love. But for the next week we are pumping all that love & energy into our little family. This is Jonah’s last week before nursery starts. I know he’s ready but unsure I am!!! So we want to give him a week of fun & madness with no phones & no work calls & no distractions. Just us….

We appreciate your understanding & allowing us the ability to ‘switch off’. We are at the end of the phone for any orders but know that unless we announce our holiday on here, we won’t say no.

Make this last week one to remember - your kids won’t remember how hard you worked but they will always remember how hard you played ❤️🧡💛💚💙💜

S O U L F U L L O F S U N S H I N E

When your winter wardrobe hasn’t made it into the attic yet, you know it’s been a cold summer!! Winter boots in July is all levels of wrong - but equally so are flip flops in the freezing rain. This last week, I’ve worn both!!!

We have been non-stop recently with celebration bouquets, buttonholes, subscriptions & customer requests. It has been crazy but we have loved every second.

This incoming week is your opportunity to send some love before we close for a few weeks to enjoy some last minute summer fun before Jonah - our little boy - heads to Nursery.

We won’t regret making time for Jonah - but we will feel awful if we have to turn any orders away. So this is your last minute warning to get any orders in this week.

T A K E B E T T E R C A R E O F Y O U

Today I took a few hours out to go across to Action Cancer, Belfast for my first ever mammogram appointment. Only recently I discovered that the amazing team at Action Cancer offer free screening to all over 40.

I’ve heard so many varying stories about mammograms & truly didn’t know what to expect. I was so pleasantly surprised!! I walked straight into a beautiful waiting room. My nurse Karen opened the door with a big friendly smile & was so lovely & chatty so we put the world to rights as the scans were all taken. It was mildly uncomfortable but this - in comparison to the cruelty of breast cancer - is a teeny tiny sacrifice to make.

I knew nothing about the availability of this screening until I noticed someone share it on social media - so I’m paying forward & doing the same! It’s super simple to book an appointment online so if you haven’t already, get it booked!! Follow the link below…

We know everyone is feeling the financial strain at the minute of ever increasing prices so we want to try to help! We have been making lots of teacher bouquets but quite a few have messaged asking if we could do something smaller & bespoke.

With this in mind, as we enter the final week of school, we are providing a Rainbow and Rose Hand Tied bouquet of Thank You flowers for an inclusive price of £20. This will be a rainbow themed posey full of sunshine & brights. We will arrange delivery drops to Templepatrick PS, Loanends PS and will consider other local schools on request/demand or arrange collection in order to try to keep the price as low as possible for those with multiple presents to buy.

The first 20 orders confirmed will also receive a large Angels Unaware personalised ceramic and all will include a My Painted Bear Thank You Teacher full sized greetings card.

We have been overwhelmed by the response - each nomination is so deserving it’s going to be impossible for dad to choose. He wants to give everyone a bouquet!!!

We will leave the nominations open until this afternoon when dad & I will personally deliver the bouquets to their very deserving recipients.
