This is one of the most special parts of being a Humanist Celebrant in HAS 💕

One of our greatest Xmas pleasures in HAS is that we get to give a little bit back to our local communities.
Sharon our Aberdeenshire celebrant says: "This lovely woman is Philippa who runs Daniel's Place, a local foodbank based in Banff. During the hard days of 2020, Daniel's Place was a fantastic resource not only for Banff but for many local small communities including Portsoy where I live. They helped a lot of people through those times and are still helping folk now. I was delighted to be able to give Philippa £100 with the love and gratitude of all the celebrants from HAS for all that Daniel's Place does."
Over the next few weeks HAS will also be making donations to Foodbanks in Aberdeen, Glasgow and Edinburgh.
We are able to do this and other charity donations thanx to all of the wonderful couples who booked their weddings with us.
We couldn't do this without you 💕

World AIDS Day has a special resonance with me as during those days before the amazing meds that now exist I was first an HIV/AIDS educator in SE London then a specialist social worker in Hackney. I honestly don't know how many people I cared for who died, I lost count. In amongst the fear and sadness though I remember courage and humour and even joy in the hardest of times. Here's to the people we lost back then and thanx to the meds now available, the people we have got to keep now!

Today is World AIDS Day.

On 1 December, we must give thanks to those who came before us. The progress we’ve made in the fight against HIV wouldn’t be possible without their contributions.

Today we’re working towards ending new cases of HIV within the decade – this would have been unthinkable 40 years ago. Donate today to fund our vital work. This once-in-a-generation opportunity won’t wait.

Here's our CEO Ian Green on remembering those we've lost and looking to the future 👇

I have been asked to conduct unplugged weddings before, but this was the most unplugged of all. Congratulations to Aleshia and Jamie for keeping their enthusiasm and senses of humour through the power outage caused by Storm Arwin and carrying on with the wedding even when the rest of the big day was cancelled. 💕

Thanx to my wee Humanist Association for the lovely article ❤️

It’s been a fantastic weekend for our Celebrant, Sharon. Not only did she conduct her 100th wedding ceremony, a team she launched to help her community through COVID were awarded with a prestigious award.

Sharon explains a little more about the team and their work here….

“It was the weeks coming up to lockdown in March 2020. The supermarkets in the bigger towns were packed and for small communities like Portsoy, Sandend, Fordyce and Cornhill in Aberdeenshire, it was clear that the impending lockdown was going to be extremely difficult.

We launched Portsoy Area Action Team, one the first active Covid Support Groups in Scotland via Facebook and soon we were leafleting every house in the area with phone numbers so people knew where they could turn for help.

With the local ice cream shop turning itself into a general store the PAAT volunteers were soon doing twice a day deliveries of shopping as well as daily pharmacy deliveries. PAAT also supported local efforts to distribute masks and face shields as well as opening a local outdoor larder, library and toy swap where local people could get things they needed without having to ask for help. Over Xmas of 2020 volunteers also made up gift hampers for local people left isolated due to the second lockdown.”

The teams efforts have now been rewarded with a joint award with two other amazing Covid support groups from Aberdeenshire with an Inspiring Aberdeenshire Award presented by no less than Jason Leitch. All of the members of PAAT were delighted with this kind recognition of their work.

COVID Update
Weddings in Scotland - 23rd February 2021
Good Evening Everyone,
As you know - we don’t like to post anything based on speculation because we want you to have confidence in what’s posted here.
Today, to summarise - in SCOTLAND, it was announced that all going well, we would move back to a level system from the last week of April, with the hope that all regions currently in Level 4 will move straight into Tier 3.
The FM was asked later on about weddings & said she “hopes weddings will be able to take place with more people attending from the end of April”.
In mid-March, we will see updated tables with what will be permitted numbers wise in each level & only then, will we know where things actually stand. So unfortunately there is no further info to share beyond that for now.
We don’t like to compare Scotlands rules with England’s & our posts are not intended to be political in any way so for comparison purposes only; Yesterday Boris Johnson announced the plans for England, which unless we’re mistaken are:
🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 In ENGLAND, from March 8th, Weddings up to 6 able to proceed but no longer just for exceptional circumstances. (We already have this, but for 5 people).
From NO EARLIER THAN 12th April & subject to assessment - 15 guests & reception in a permitted venue.
From 17th May - 30 guests
From no earlier than 21st June & at least 5 weeks after Step 3, & following a further review of data against the 4 tests - no legal limit on weddings, (so this date is a target, not a guarantee - as we understand it) 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿
So what was said today isn’t necessarily far off what England are doing but we won’t really know if that’s the case until the information in Mid-March is known.
We hope with all the discussions we’ve had with the Scottish Government, all the discussions the SWIA have had on wedding business requirements, as well as any other stakeholder meetings - that we’ll see an optimistic set of tables when it comes to updated wedding numbers in the various levels TBA in Mid-March. If it’s the same as before we’ll be massively disappointed but don’t want to be overly concerned until we find out in Mid-March.
