A very happy birthday to "Mr Mill House" aka Louis.

We went for a slap up Chinese on Friday to celebrate.

Altho I am usually the face on our social media this is definitely a partnership and he does equal amounts of animal care, admin, gardening and cleaning. Poor bloke also has to put up with all my ranting about various things and complaining about the menopause 🤣

The place would not run without him so I will let him sit back, relax and enjoy his day today.

Probably not the world's best kept secret but there are 2 more alpacas coming to join our herd next month.

They won't actually belong to us but our good friend Jan has wanted her own alpacas for around 4 years now but not been able to secure a suitable field to rent.

An off the cuff remark from me that she could always keep them at ours if she wanted has led to this exciting news for us all.

Alpacas are naturally herd animals so hopefully they will all get on nicely. Jan has been helping us with ours for over 3 years now and is fully experienced in toenail cutting, shearing day, poo collection and probably occasionally being spat at 🤣

These two beautiful girls are Celandine and Nefertiti from and ours promise to welcome them nicely. We are hoping for mid July.....

Alpaca facts.

Just some alpaca facts for you on a Tuesday 😊

Alpacas are herd animals and get stressed living alone. Ideally they need a minimum of 2 others to live with but they can be kept with llamas, goats, sheep or donkeys.

Alpacas mainly eat grass but enjoy a wide variety of plants and the leaves from trees and shrubs as part of their diet. We let ours in the garden and I have to chase them off my favourite plants on a regular basis 🤣

Female alpacas are pregnant from between 11 and 12 months (they can choose to "hang on" if conditions aren't right for the baby (cria) to be born. The baby is usually born in the morning so by nightfall it is strong enough to walk or run if predators are around.

Their favorite occupation seems to be sunbathing, they just love it! 😎🌞

Not easy to do right?

I was watching the squirrel in our garden. For days he was eating all the food we had put out for the birds so we put a squirrel guard over the feeder and now he can't get to it.

He still has plenty to eat in the garden, but on the first day he spent hours trying to get past the guard, attempting from different branches and different angles.

It made me wonder how much time we spent on situations or people we can't change without just "letting things be" and moving on. I know in the past I have all wanted to rescue people and fix things, but mindfulness has made me much more aware of these behavior and how draining they are.

On a more minor level how much energy is spent on frustration at the traffic jam we find ourselves in, the queue at the shop etc?

How much more free we could be if we learnt to just let go whenever we can. This is how we can have the energy and enthusiasm for the things that do matter!

Does this resonate with anyone else?

❤️

Some before and after photos from shearing day today.

We'll it was an early start as we were the first of the day for the shearer and he was with us for a 7am start.

A massive thank you to our great friend for coming to help us too.

They don't like being shorn as it's noisy and scary for them but luckily it doesn't take long and they have been skipping about happy ever since with the weight of all that hot fur gone for summer.

They have all been enjoying a good old sunbathe this afternoon and chilling out 😎

Thanks to our shearer Aaron for an excellent job.
