Situated in the centre of Barmouth on the west coast of Snowdonia, this imposing, converted Victorian chapel houses a 184-seat traditional theatre auditorium, plus several other function and community meeting rooms including a second studio stage. The building is lovingly run and mai

Renowned storyteller and crankie maker Peter Stevenson is coming to the Dragon Theatre to tell stories and show us how to make our own crankies! Crankies are a form of visual storytelling with a rich and wonderful history. A traditional Crankie is a long, illustrated scroll (also called a โ€œmoving panoramaโ€ or a โ€œmoving backdropโ€) that is wound onto two spools. The spools have handles that can be โ€˜crankedโ€™ to bring movement to the scroll.

In this workshop Peter will tell some Welsh folk tales with crankies, and afterwards will teach us all to make our own mini crankies.

We are delighted to let you know that we have received an additional grant from the Warm Spaces fund and are able to extend our Young at Heart Fridays!

Starting next week, our accessible Arts Room will be nice and warm and open for free coffee & tea, with some newspapers and magazines available to read as well. At 12 we'll serve our usual soup and a roll and the film will start at 12;45 pm.
Then at 3 pm we will take orders for a light meal, finishing at 4 pm.

Come for as short or as long as you wish. We look forward to welcoming you!

A film club for young people between 15 and 25, showing films chosen by young people themselves.
With generous funding from Gwynedd Youth Service, we are offering a fortnightly film club for young people, with a film followed by a Movie Cafe where we'll chat about the film, listen to speakers and more. You'll also help choose the next films!

Hazel and Gus are two teenagers who share an acerbic wit, a disdain for the conventional, and a love that sweeps them on a journey. Their relationship is all the more miraculous given that Hazel's other constant companion is an oxygen tank, Gus jokes about his prosthetic leg, and they met and fell in love at a cancer support group. Based on the best-selling novel by John Greene.

Beneath the west Welsh waters are stories - flood myths - that tell of a time when you could walk across Cardigan Bay to Ireland. Above the sea are forgotten fairytales that tell of dreamers who built utopian lands, old ladies who made love potions with well water, and rivers who were seen as people. Using old methods of visual storytelling that gave rise to the fledgling film industry, filmmaker and sound artist Jacob Whittaker and storyteller and illustrator Peter Stevenson take a journey through time to hear these lost voices in the water.
