In 2021 I read an article about all the edible food that is sent to landfill by supermarkets, a lot of it is still fresh & safe to eat, the environmental impact that has on the planet, is unhealthy, so I researched about Community Fridges.
Community fridges often get confused with food banks, community fridges are a source of FREE FOOD, for everyone to use, to save good food from landfill, anyone can visit a community fridge, it's a friendly space for everyone to do their bit for the planet, plus all the food is FREE, for you take home & whip up a culinary delight!
I've managed to get Marks & Spencers, Tesco, Asda, Aldi, Co-Op & Morrisons on board, who kindly donate to The Community Fridge at The Cabin, Hall Street, Hoyland, 3 times a week!
The Community fridge at the cabin has been open since May 27th 2022, we have over 200 visitors to the cabin on a weekly basis, who we call our food waste hero's!!
I feel so very proud and honoured to have the most fantastic team of volunteers, who run the cabin, some use their own vehicles and petrol collecting from the supermarkets, to ensure our cabin is well stocked everytime we open.
