Holding our own events and retreats from live Music in the gardens, workshops in photography capturing the beauty of the landscape on camera, or on canvass with an art course to Yoga and meditation retreats

For events, functions and parties every event held here will be truly spectacular, whether in the barn or the orangery or even the gardens your event at Westcott Barton is designed by you. Our accommodation is also available for holiday lets. The Westcott Barton Farmhouse is a Grade II listed Devon longhouse full of character and charm which, with equally as endearing ancillary accommodation across a cobblestone court yard can sleep up to 22 people there is also the cottage which is perfect for smaller holiday bookings sleeping from 2 - 6 people. An exciting new retreat is happening this Spring at Westcott Barton hosted by Fergus Drennan 🍄

Fergus is one of the UK’s most experienced and knowledgeable foraging and wild food experts. Drawing on 30 years of hands-on practical ethnobotanical research inspired by both historical, contemporary, and cross cultural sources.

Itinerary
- Day 1: Trees.
Tasting many homemade wild foods derived from them, as well as foraging from the trees themselves.

- Day 2: Herbaceous Plants and Fungi.
Although the main season for the majority of fungi is the autumn, given the right conditions, each season produces a unique range of fungi, from grassland species to mycorrhizal woodland species, and wood decomposers,

-Day 3: Seaweeds and Coastal Plants.
Excursion to Rockham Beach/Broadoar Bay will provide access to an amazing range of incredible seaweeds or sea vegetables

Our Story

At Westcott Barton there is a sense of stepping out of one world into another which is less complicated, more tranquil. Although only 7 miles from north of Barnstaple, and a short drive from many of Britain's best beaches, we are wonderfully remote.

There has been a homestead at Westcott Saxon times; it is mentioned in the Domesday Book and was the home of the Chichester family during the 17th century.

The main farmhouse building is a Grade II listed Devon longhouse. There are number of old stone barns are arranged around the farm house, some of which have been developed to offer ancillary accommodation to the Farmhouse. Across the courtyard from the farm house is also The Cottage a self contained holiday home.

The beautiful gardens are traditional and formal, but once outside the garden gate the valley follows the meandering stream through ponds, ancient tracks, woodland and hilly pastures.
