A date for your diary ... the popular Swimbridge Christmas Arts & Craft Fair is on Saturday 30th November from 10 am - 4pm in the Jubilee Hall, beautiful Grade 1 listed Church and the Upper Old School room (just 2 minutes walking distance from each other). It is now in its 20th year and one of the biggest in North Devon with over 45 stalls selling original presents, traditional decorations, folk art, paintings, jewellery, pottery by local artists and so much more - everything you need to celebrate the festive season.
Spend the day and enjoy a scrumptious lunch, mulled wine and mince pies. We look forward to seeing you there.

Come along to our Jubilee Hall AGM and help us make it happen. We'd love to see you there.

Last Dance Saloon is a decent example of how the North Devon theatre ecology can come together to develop and launch a new piece of work.

Multi Story made the initial investment in the researching and scripting of the play. Late-stage rehearsals took place at the Bridge Trust Hall thanks to Bridge Trust Barnstaple and Beaford. Final rehearsals were at The Plough Arts Centre, thanks to Richard Wolfenden-Brown, and that is where the production opened on a generous box-office split. We then presented a self-promotion at Swimbridge Jubilee Hall supported by the hall committee. Following that, Beaford offered the play to its village promoters. We have four dates with Beaford in North Devon and, as a result of their endorsement, we have dates with other Rural Touring schemes across the country that take us up to the end of next year (details still being finalised).

And next up is our performance as part of the fabulous Welcome Week(ender) festival at The Landmark, which is very deliberately pulling together North Devon-linked companies to help develop the theatre offer in the area.

Also worth noting, when we were looking for some tango expertise to help us to delve into the nature of the dance and learn enough to convince as enthusiastic beginners, we came across Tango en el Pueblo, operating out of Swimbridge, led by Aksana and Nick who bring a world of tango experience to North Devon.

What a great place to be creating in.

Try a free beginner Argentine Tango class! New beginners are welcome to drop in any week to try first class free.

Beginner and regular classes are every Monday at Swimbridge Jubilee Hall in Swimbridge outside Barnstaple. Make it an evening and stay for the social practice dance after class.

(We also have classes on Fridays in Higher Clovelly - see our page for details!)

You can come with or without a partner - social tango is a beautiful way to meet new people and learn an exciting new skill at the same time. (You can of course drag friends or partners along for fun as well!)

Monday nights:

- 6:00pm beginners + fundamental technique

- 6:30pm main class

- 7:30pm practica

Follow our page for updates and details!

----

Why dance tango?

- Tango can be spectacular - but actually mostly it's about forming a deep unspoken connection with your partner.

- Tango is social – you don’t need a regular partner; you'll dance with many friends and friendly strangers!

- Tango is improvised – every dance a new act of creative expression.

- Tango is musical – experience a new world of music, and experience familiar music in a whole new way with your own body.

- Tango has a rich cultural history – full of classical music, traditions, elegance, and legends…

…But tango is also contemporary and evolving – you can dance to many styles of music, you can mix gender roles, you can explore and invent.

----

Do I need a partner?

No! Social tango is about meeting and dancing with new people. You'll learn how to lead and follow with a wide range of dancers! (Do drag your friends/partners along to make it even more fun if you can 🙂)

----

What do I bring?

Comfortable clothing to move freely in. And if you like – up to you! - why not take the excuse to bring out your best threads for a night of tango glamour!

You'll need shoes you feel steady in – if you don't have dance shoes then go for smooth leather soles and sensible heels.

(Check our post on what shoes to wear: https://www.facebook.com/photo?fbid=138744899034744 )

----

What level is the class?

We start the night with a short fundamental technique class, which is suitable for absolute beginners. Each week we will work on a different aspect of basic technique, and over a few weeks you will get a good foundation upon which to take our main open level class.

The main class is open-level, which means it's suitable whether it's the first time you're learning a new topic, or whether you want to go deeper. Each week we'll pick a different topic to expand your world of social argentine tango!

----

When is the class?

Monday night:

6:00pm: Beginner-friendly fundamental technique

6:30pm: 1-hour main class

7:30pm: open social practica.

----

Where is it?

We're in Swimbridge Jubilee Hall, in the middle of Swimbridge village EX32 0PQ. Parking on-site.

----

How much does it cost?

Try your first class as a beginner for free!

Drop-in cost is £10 per person, inc. both classes and practica.

Or, commit to 5 nights (both classes + practica) for just £35 (£7 per night).

Who are the teachers?

Tango en el Pueblo started tango classes in North Devon in 2022.

Nick has been learning Argentine tango (you never stop learning!) for 13 years. For 5 years he ran the popular Jewel Lab Practica in Sydney, and for 3 years taught as a co-founder of Love Tango school.

Aksana and Nick have choreographed and performed group tangos at Sydney Opera House, trained in Buenos Aires with world renown maestros, and danced with joy throughout Europe, the Americas, and Australasia.
