Hello, my name is Deborah Mason of Garden Creations, I thought I would reintroduce myself as many of you know I grow cut flowers (Bramshill Flowers) but I also work as a gardener and designer. I am taking on new clients right now and would love to hear from you, whether your garden simply needs a spruce up, a regular visit, a planting plan or a completely new design. Alternatively, you might just want to find out more information and I’m more than happy to have a chat about what you would like for your garden – just get in touch

[email protected]

You may be wondering what on earth there is to do in the garden right now in the depths of Winter – well currently I’m cutting back perennials (including for the first time this season the “chop and drop” and I can tell you more about this but it is great for the soil). Loads of mulching (also great for the soil), edging and lots of weeding.
I’m also sowing Sweet Peas, which you can do if you have a greenhouse or not. Onions can be sown – indoors then once they sprout, they can go in the cold frame.
Pruning trees, planting trees and shrubs, planting roses … and designing beautiful gardens with borders full flowers, fruit and vegetables.

I also offer consultations, which is a great way to learn more about your garden and the plants you have, discuss what else you would like in your garden and create a plan. This can be a on-off visit or the start of several follow up visits to implement any plans.
However, many garden owners use a consultation as a mentoring session and then feel more confident to carry out the work themselves.

I am a qualified, experienced and eco-conscious gardener, always looking at better ways to make the most of garden spaces whilst looking after the wildlife too.

I provide lots of gorgeous blooms to couples who want to create their own arrangements but because I am a flower grower and a florist I can, if you wish, design and create your bouquets and buttonholes, plus arrangements for the venue too.

I always wait until the New Year to sow Sweet Peas so I thought I would treat us to a photo of what’s to come along in June. I sow them today and can’t wait until I can include just a few in gorgeous wedding bouquets. Who doesn’t love the scent of Sweet Peas 💖

Growing With Nature is my new slogan for 2025.

I’m not a certified organic grower but I do try to grow according to organic methods. I never use pesticides or chemicals which will harm wildlife and the ecosystem I manage for my flowers.

So last year I planted lots of organic bulbs, specifically tulips in lots of lush, vibrant colours which always bring lots of joy in Spring and makes me very happy …

… However, damaging artificial chemicals such as pesticides and fungicides can sneak in without your realising.

Most of the bulbs we buy – tulips, daffodils etc. are mass produced and toxic pesticides and fungicides used in their production, which will damage the biodiversity and ecosystem of that area. Also, traces of these chemicals remain in the bulbs and the flowers which bloom in the Spring – the bees and pollinators that then feed on these flowers are very badly affected.

I’m really looking forward to seeing the result of my organic bulb planting this Spring and as you can see from photo 2 the bulbs themselves looked very healthy.

Organic bulbs are not cheap as the growing and production of organic bulbs is less intensive and more considered – bulbs are not so closely planted to prevent disease and crops are rotated. So I have literally “put my money where my mouth is”, so lets see who is with me on this … are you?

Now that Winter is with us there is very little growing in the field, although there is plenty going on below ground - roots developing, hardy seeds sprouting and tulips pushing their way to the surface... 🌱

… and there are still evergreens such as Viburnum, Pittisporum and Choisya for lush foliage as well as beautiful catkins 🌾
.. roll on March when the Daffodils, early Tulips and Hellebores start to bloom.

… but until then for special arrangements and Farewell Flowers I will source flowers from fellow local growers who grow in protected environments.

So do get in touch if you want something natural and special or just a simple flower fix 🌸✨🌿

Gathering more foliage this morning - Pittosporum with leaves showing stress but I’m loving the colour right now for the Wreaths. I’m not picking Holly berries this year, as there aren’t many this year and the birds will need as many as they can find. So anything else with even a bit of red is for the chop 😅🌿❤️

I love the transition into Autumn and Winter so creating Festive Wreaths is a wonderful celebration of the woodlands, hedgerows and gardens this time of year… and because all the wreaths I create are compostable they can ultimately be returned back to the woodlands, hedgerows and gardens 🌿

All my Festive Winter Wreaths are based on a willow ring dressed with hay and bound with twine. This means that they are fully compostable and can be put on the compost heap when they are taken down. However, they can also be placed under a hedge to slowly decompose or even hung in a tree to benefit the wildlife – my favourite way of using the Wreath after Christmas. Alternatively, the willow and hay ring can be kept and reused the following year.

Please contact me if you would like one or go to the website (link in bio).

Now this isn’t a case of how it should be done but I thought you may be interested in how I’ve protected the dahlias in the field…
I pride myself on creating as little disturbance as possible to the soil and the little eco system I have here, so I have left the Dahlia tubers in the ground. I have cut the stems down and then chopped them up and simply dropped them on and around the plants. I have then added a very thick layer of home made but very rough compost onto some of the beds. I didn’t have enough compost so I’ve used hay to cover the rest … and yes I will probably be regretting all the weeds which may follow, although I am getting more and more tolerant of them.
This worked last year but it might be much colder and wetter this winter so I may lose some of them. However, I have found in the past I lose more from storing them as tubers in my damp workshop.
So, Dahlias are sorted – happy days.
On to the tulip planting …

I love creating Festive Wreaths and this season I am particularly inspired by the Winter woodland and hedgerows. So, all my wreaths will reflect the seasonal bounty of pine, holly, ivy, seedheads, pinecones and berries, plus foraged goodies from the garden.
These will be a lovely natural and festive welcome to hang on your front door during Christmas and into the New Year.
If you would like to look at some Festive Winter Wreaths from Christmas Past, please have a look at my website https://www.bramshillflowers.com/

All the Wreaths will be made to order so if you would like to order a Festive Winter Wreath, please get in touch 🌿

Here’s a few stragglers for you if you’d like them …
I’m actually at the field to cut the grass but I couldn’t resist picking these last little gems who just don’t know when to stop 🌼🌸💐
