As we all know, this happened last night. A solar storm that hit Earth caused this powerful and impressive display of the Aurora. It's been amazing to see so many people share their experiences today. Some even captured images from their bedroom window with just their phones. Of all the images I took through the night, I have chosen these as my favourite and one of the images was actually captured with my drone.🙌

This was definitely the best display I have seen over South Wales and with the Solar maximum at its 11 year peak, we can certainly expect to see more over the next few months.

Of the many times I have been to Iceland, I have always captured the Northern Lights (except in summer time where it's not visible)

"I would love to see the northern lights"
"I never saw the lights when I was there"
"It's on my bucket list"
"one day I might go"

Exhausted, but yet again blown away after witnessing last night's Aurora display. After a few days of the weather being against me, I was determined to return home keeping to my record of capturing the Aurora on every visit to Iceland during the Aurora season.

I also return to Iceland again at the beginning of November with my other business Siren Adventure & Photography Tours

I am told on many occasions "I WOULD LOVE TO VISIT ICELAND"

I am currently away taking a short break from wedding photography and In doing so I have headed back to the most otherworldly place that exists yes possible for all to see. Iceland.

Today has been another very long and tiring day, to which I spent a few hours in the highlands, a place that's so surreal.

Driving through lava fields, and up close to volcanic craters is insane. These three craters from a previous eruption sit under the blanket mist, giving the view such a dramatic effect.

I am heading back to Iceland in a few days and will spend a bit more time in areas I have never seen before.

One thing that I cannot wait to see regardless of how many times I have seen it is the Northern Lights.

I am so looking forward to seeing nights like this again🙌

Thursday night proved to be incredible in so many ways. As an unplanned trip to the Elan Valley, I stayed the night, camping under the night sky and wow what a display I had.

You may have seen my previous post on the Milkyway and my tent setup. I took a walk around the area through the night and was memorised by seeing the Milkyway so clear by eye going over the top of these trees.

The sky is green due to what is called Airglow!
Airglow is a faint light emitted by the upper atmosphere of Earth, which is caused by the absorption of solar radiation by atoms and molecules.

Last night was truly spectacular. A stunning milky way and the sky filled with Air Glow to give that green colour to the sky.

So this happened last night.

I get asked many times, why do I like to go out through the night!

There is something fascinating about looking up at the Milkyway under a clear night sky and trying to make sense of the vast size of the galaxy in which Earth is located. "When we look out into space, we're looking back in time - history, that's always there to see"

Take every opportunity to live and experience our world.

The bright star that is seen in the second photo is called Vega and it's the brightest star in the constellation Lyra and the second brightest star in the northern hemisphere, which is 25 light years from Earth "roughly 147 trillion miles" Insane !

The green in the sky is known as Air Glow - produced by atoms and molecules in the atmosphere. Photographers and astronomers use long-exposure photography to capture the details and colours of airglow that are otherwise invisible by eye.
