I love drying and storing my own herbs for use over the winter - what are your favourites and how do you store them?

On a rare holiday in Crete whilst my son is back from Oz to look after the dog. Loving the history and artefacts which date back to 1800BC. From Arab to Minoans to Turkish to Roman ….. history is intense and life so advanced.

Borders are all about soil and the life it contains and we do the best we can for it. Material from last years growth is chopped and dropped, easy as it’s so brittle, fed with blood fish n bonemeal and then homemade leaf mould is mulched over the top. Building an ecosystem is so important and allowing the plants to have a relationship with it. No chemicals just love and care.

Not often I see something that makes me go WOW 🤩… but this plant did. Wandering streets on my dog walk while I wait for pet shop to open before my day starts and a front garden planting which adds a dramatic entrance. Scrummy- what do you think?

What a week it has been and had a great visit to who put on a morning and lovely lunch (even catering for me being vegan) - for a good show around the nursery to what they do, how they grow and the vast range they have. Big shout out to Peggy & Andrea who are front of house and do an amazing job.
Even though I have known the nursery for 15yrs now and seen how it has changed and develop and even at one point I was pruning and shaping all the Buxus they had growing in their field, they really have grown into one of the most important nurseries in the area.

In my decluttering I was thankful I came across this article about my neighbour Tess Bradley when I lived on the north coast of Penwith. It was written in 1999 and was about her garden for wildlife she created. I was in my 20’s when I lived there and a few people come into your lives who have a profound impact and she was one of them. She taught me a lot and I will be forever grateful to her. Her passion for wildlife was immense and her joy to create habitats and homes for every living species, she also rescued Great Danes and had a large number of cats.
She was an absolute joy and will be greatly missed but not forgotten ❤️

A busy and exhausting year that was 2024 and I have taken time to reflect and declutter. Much appreciation and thanks to all my clients that entrusted me with their gardens, believing in my vision and putting their faith in me.

After 15 months away my son is returning from Australia for a short time - hence the start of decluttering of 20years of stuff. It is a good excuse but it is also therapeutic to unload and clear out.
I now look forward to what 2025 will bring forth, with a few adventures planned and inspiration that will emerge. I find that the beginning of the year is a time of reflection and appreciating all the good that has happened and the friends around.

I look forward to new challenges and gardens to design, develop and grow, having a lighter touch on the environment and making sure more is put back than what is taken out.

The ever-changing weather has us all a bit puzzled lately, and our gardens feel it too! 🌱

Just last week, while planting bulbs, we saw temperatures flip from warm sunshine to a frosty chill in just two days. One moment, Echinacea blooms are making a surprise appearance and the next, their seed heads are frozen solid. Nature’s drama, right? ❄️

This is the perfect reminder that leaving your plant material and mulching your beds during these shifts is essential. Embrace a little untidiness—it’s not only great for your plants but also a win for wildlife! Letting your garden grow a little wild can create a haven for pollinators and other creatures while protecting your plants from the shock of sudden weather swings. 🌾🦋

If you’re dreaming of transforming your garden into a beautiful, joyful and eco-friendly space, we’d love to help! Let’s work together to create a garden that brings you peace and works in harmony with the environment. 🌿💚

Bulbs, bulbs and more bulbs….. I am starting to dream about them and drainage construction drawings… don’t ask!

Here I am creating a cutting flower bed in what was a potato bed to give it a rest for a year. My client is all about flowers to use for cutting which is a joy to have. Lots of Parrot varieties together with summer flowering Gladioli have just gone in and later it will be filled with summer annuals to use for cutting to add to the range of perennials we have in the garden.

🌷🌱 It's still bulb planting season, and we’re fully immersed in the process! 🌷🌱

Replenishing tulip bulbs is always a good idea, as our unpredictable winter weather can sometimes take a toll on those left in the ground. Species bulbs are my absolute favourite—they have this magical ability to naturalise and spread beautifully when planted in the right spots under the right conditions.

This week, we revisited a project where we designed the planting scheme. Seeing it now thriving and bringing so much joy to its owners is the ultimate reward. A well-thought-out planting scheme not only transforms a space but also engages and inspires those who tend to it. 🌿💚

Happy planting! Job done? Absolutely. 👍

🌿 Weather Whiplash, Anyone? 🌿

Is everyone ready for this rollercoaster weather? From glorious double-digit temperatures—perfect for a bit of chainsawing and marveling at mycorrhiza in action—to snow just a couple of days later! And by the end of the week? We’re back to warmer days again. British weather at its finest!

While out in the garden, I spotted snowdrops already in bloom and even an Exochorda x macrantha starting to bud—nature never fails to surprise us. Today, I made a trip to West Kington Nurseries Ltd and couldn’t have been more grateful that everything I needed was tucked away under cover. The outdoor plants? Snuggled up under a blanket of snow!

We’re still planting bulbs and braving the cold—stay warm and keep enjoying the beauty of winter gardens. The seasons might be confused, but the plants are thriving in their own way! ❄️🌸
