🌞 Who else has been soaking up this glorious warm weather? It's like the plants are as confused as we are – still blooming and showing off when they’d usually be winding down! 🌸

But, winter is coming, and it's time to give those precious plants a nice warm blanket. This week, I stocked up on a bale of straw to wrap around the crowns and add an insulating layer to the soil, ready for the colder days ahead. 🥶

I've also brought my more delicate plants indoors (as many as I could squeeze in!). But my Ensete ventricosum banana? It's staying outside with a bit of extra TLC – a thick layer of straw, a snug wrap for the planter, and a cosy spot near the house. Fingers crossed it pulls through! 🤞🌿

How are you prepping your garden for winter? 🍂

🍂🌿 Enjoying the Autumn Colours! 🌿🍂

We’re loving the beautiful autumn hues, even if the plants aren’t quite sure what’s going on this season! Revisiting this project has been a joy – it’s wonderful to see it bedding into its environment and thriving. There’s something magical about watching a garden design evolve and settle into its surroundings. 🌱✨

Autumn has arrived, bringing those beautiful changing colours, cool air and all the damp earth—a perfect time to dig into border work. 🍂

This garden design took shape in the summer and now my clients are diving in, eager to get their hands dirty and learn the art of pruning.

Whenever possible, I love to keep the existing plants, but it’s all about balance. Sometimes a few shrubs need to go to make room for a healthier, more open structure. In this garden, the dense border was blocking light, with everything leaning forward, stretching for the sun. So, we spent the day deciding what to keep, what to clear, and what to trim back to encourage new growth. We reshaped the border, giving it a fresh outline ready for a new season.

It was a rewarding day and I can’t wait to see how this border evolves! 🌱

On Tuesday, I had the pleasure of visiting The Newt with a colleague from my construction design course at . The Newt does hard landscaping exceptionally well, and I was particularly impressed with how they’ve addressed drainage issues—something that's even more critical with the heavy rain we've been experiencing lately.🌧️

Incorporating proper drainage into garden design is so important, whether it's through SUDS, rain gardens, or traditional systems like French drains. But, of course, it’s essential not to exceed the drainage capacity. I did question the choice of oak setts and the wooden boardwalk from the car park as they get very slippery.🫣

I also had a great chat with —his work on The Colour Gardens is simply stunning!

What a glorious day today, out in a garden finishing the last bit of scything, discovering the nest of an European hornet in last years scything mound. We left this nest in peace whilst in action and so lovely to discover the structure. Hannah & I had some love from Maya today too.

So my dog walking around Larkhall I am never surprised what I see and this just brought a huge smile to my face ….. lots of fairies, the baby doll in the tree and the hundreds of marbles!!! One way to decorate a wall. At least this wasn’t as disturbing as some things I have seen….

Just letting everyone know that you won’t be able to access my website at present due to some reason it has ‘been deactivated’ Not me or the company that manages it has done this and we are trying to get to the bottom of it. Feeling it has been hacked…. I am hardly the big guns here….

I will let you know when it is up and running again.

What a gorgeous day yesterday and in the afternoon a visit to this project planted up a couple months ago to help support the client manage the maintenance and work out what is a w**d and not!! The tricky ones are geranium azure rush and buttercups!! Also Cirsium and thistles!!
It is also fairy time and the amazing amount of fungi that are starting to emerge!! Double check if you are foraging and there are some great workshops out there to learn more from experts- a lot easier than books or internet!!

Have a great Sunday 💕

🌿✨ Greetings from London! ✨🌿

I’m currently at Kew Gardens, diving into a construction design course with . Over the next few months, I’ll be fully immersed in learning about the materials that shape our industry, exploring new ideas and challenging myself to grow.

It’s amazing to see how London’s architecture is so different from Bath—here it’s all about brick, while Bath is known for its soft, elegant stone. I love how every part of the UK has its own signature stone, from Cornwall’s rugged granite to Monmouthshire’s red sandstone.

Such a beautiful couple of days to enjoy all that London has to offer! 🌸🌆

A great day was had out on the river with raising much needed funds for Dorothy House as 80% comes from fund raising and donations. 9 miles was achieved on the paddleboard with standing and using it as a kayak. Water was freezing by the way !! Such fun with Maddi & David xx A massive thank you to everyone that sponsored me to do this - it means a lot 😘😘

Hope you all had a great weekend last week! Mine was a mix of relaxation and rain, as I took a little break from gardens and design. 🌧️🌿

Spent a long weekend in the beautiful , dodging rain showers and downpours while scything, tending to a grass mound, and even spotting some TurkeyTail fungi on my oak log pile 🍄.

The forest was full of life, with bracken and heather all around. Sometimes it's nice to step away and reconnect with nature.

Wishing you all a wonderful weekend ahead! 🌸🌳
