We planted this Wisteria not long after starting at Buckland, it must be about 23 years old now and trained around the balcony of the master bedroom. This sunshine has really brought it out in full bloom and it smells fantastic too! ☀️🌺🐝

One of our 200 year old Ash trees has succumbed to Ash dieback which is sadly killing off a lot of our native ash trees in the UK.

We have been lucky to have Walter working here for many years now who is a skilled carpenter and has made a lot of the fittings and tables you will see around the house from our own timber so nothing will be wasted.

Our meadow has been carefully managed over the years to naturally encourage wildflowers, considering none have been planted we are amazed how many different species have popped up - here you can see dandelion season in full flow and wild garlic is also abundant under the beech trees in the garden.
As well as being bee friendly it also makes delicious hay for the horses and provides a beautiful back drop for wedding photos!

It's been a busy summer here at Buckland, so good to see guests enjoying weddings and celebrations again, really has felt that bit more special after all the lockdowns and uncertainty.

Lauren and Alastair kindly shared some photos from their beautiful sunny wedding on August bank holiday, congratulations and thanks to everyone who has visited this summer it has been one to remember!

Even though we can only host one household at the moment (2 after 17th May!) we were excited to welcome back our first guests last week and it was lovely to hear children playing in the gardens again. In the meantime we're still busy working on the grounds and recently have been clearing an area of garden around the churchyard where there is a huge beech tree which deserves to be seen - an incredible 40 yards across the canopy (36 meters for the younger generation!).
Trees have always been important to us and one of the first things we did at Buckland when we moved was landscape and plant around the gardens and grounds which is really paying off now 20 odd years later. Not that we planted this one but in another 100 years we hope some or ours will still be here too!

Buckland has brought us many challenges over the years, renewing our water tanks is one we've taken on recently. What may sound like a simple job required a roof to be removed, a crane to be hired in to lift out the old and lower the new into the roof space and then boards, batons and slates quickly replaced before the rain came.
Step one complete now to plumb them in.....

All very quiet here with nobody to stay, sad that we won't be seeing some of you over the coming months but hope everyone is doing OK. In the meantime this sun means theres plenty of grass for the horses so at least they are enjoying this weather. Take care everybody, love from all at Buckland
