Here are some of the ways Wirral Flower Farm is bringing these blooms to your hands THIS YEAR!
1. Workshops!
We have lots of different workshops running from May - October which are all available to book on our website www.lifeonthelot.co.uk
A few of these are already FULLY BOOKED! ๐ If you want a more personalised experience - this is for YOU! ๐ธ
2. Pick Your Own!
Our PYO will be opening as soon as the flowers are ready! Grab yourself a bucket and some snips (from us of course!) and head into the field! Bring the family, bring the dog! We can't wait to get our community passionate about flowers! ๐ฟ๐ธ
3. Seeds to Stems Course!

Ever wondered what it takes to start a flower farm from scratch? ๐ธ
Here's how I'm turning an empty field into Wirral's first flower farm โ sharing the exact steps I'm following to turn this into a dream come true!
1. Layout - deciding on a layout for the farm based on my initial knowledge of the field. I'm getting the bones of this layout in place and spending the winter seeing where the wetter/drier parts naturally are before deciding on the final planting schemes.
2. Water - creating a plan to collect as much water as possible! And working out how much we might need per square meter ๐ซ my aim is to have 15 IBCs in total!
3. Manure! ๐ฉ Sourcing some great mulch to get into our growing spaces in the heavy clay soil so the worms can start to work their magic! Improving the soil is my main focus! Healthy soil = healthy plants = less pests!
4. Composting - see step 3 - we are obviously going to need LOADS of this and the more we can make on site the better! We'll know exactly what it contains!
5. Revenue Streams - lots of people forget that once you have grown the flowers you actually have to sell them in order for your business to work. Creating workshops, courses and getting them on sale is already helping to raise the profile of the farm! Ready to welcome visitors next year!
I'm new to this game and I'm hoping some of this will help anyone wanting to take the leap or is at the same gut-wrenching, fear-inducing stage I'm at!

It's amazing what you can achieve in such a short space of time! ๐ฒ
The planning and preparation behind the scenes has been really immense and while it looks quick and easy on social media - don't let it fool you.
I'm loving the journey and the process of Wirral Flower Farm!
Xmas seems to be a really big marker in the calendar for me as once this is over it's countdown to opening!
Bring on 2025! ๐๐คช
Behind the scenes, I have been switching into the mindset of my growing becoming a business, actually having to rely on crops for Income means I need to get things right - which is an awful lot of pressure.
But, also coming up with and recording my own systems and methods of what works for me. Being able to push the envelopes of growing but not too far!
Finding the balance.
One of those for me has become the Autumn Equinox.
I've been keeping an eye on my local temps (after some great advice) and the Equinox delivers a big shift and drop for me. Showing me the time to stop planting out the hardy annuals.
This weekend will be my last window of opportunity to get them in the ground.
And next year I'll be able to plan for this SO much better now I have this data and method to work with ๐

Update on Allotment Tasks!!! And the sweet pea farm plans ๐ฟ๐ธ๐ฑ
Many reasons to be HAPPY this week...
๐ฟ IBC tanks arrived! And I have found a great supplier! ๐
๐ท 120m approx. of beds are now tucked up for the winter (Beds Phase 1 Complete!)
๐ฟ New sign installed so everyone can find me! ๐ซถ
๐ท Plants in the ground didn't die! Always a bonus!
Phase one of set up is almost complete! To Do:
โ
Rig up the rain catchers on IBCs and get them in position!
โ
Build another compost station and attach the roof
Then we do it ALL again for phase two! ๐ Rinse and repeat!
Still howling at the song choice from @ourdaleyhome which I found hilarious ๐
๐คซ Can you tell I'm excited to let you know...?
Big news is about to arrive!
Head to stories to set your reminders! ๐
The amount of people who are shocked that you can get black tomatoes still amazes me! ๐
Black tomatoes are amazing and packed with lots of health boosting antioxidants - you definitely need to give them a try!
But the most common question of all..
โHow do you know when they are ripe?
This one is a perfect example as they still have a colour undertone to the dark hue, which turns red when it ripens. But, if you get a particularly dark one - the squeeze test is also good too!
