It's 2023. Charlie, Alex and Olivia are growing up in the post Covid world and things are starting to get weird. Charlie is battling with conspiracy theories, Olivia can’t get anyone to like her posts and Alex is just a troll (In more ways than one).

Created at the height of the pandemic, Platform delves into the darker side of social media.

Whole is a show about two people – one of them is on stage, the other isn’t.
Emma has been looking for a way to fill the gaping hole her identical twin sister’s death has left behind.

Adapted for the stage from Jade Byrne’s much-loved book, this brand-new family show takes you on a remarkable journey of learning about disabilities and difference, filled with take-home songs and positive messages of acceptance. Through her fantastical world of music and learning to “Ride the Rollercoaster”; when Daisy needs to be brave, will she learn how to find her own invisible superhero cape and save the day? Blackbird Creative Arts’ motto is: ‘changing the world one story at a time’. As a theatre producing company based in Darlington, they’re best known for Jade Byrne’s uplifting and funny show ‘Pricks’ which challenged perspectives about Type 1 Diabetes and toured nationally between 2018 and 2022, including a successful run at the Edinburgh Fringe. Each Blackbird Creative Arts project works extensively with multi-talented artists, participants, and other people with lived experience of the theme, finding creative ways to share everyone’s story too. Santi and Naz - 22nd October Santi and Naz are bestest-best friends living in a village in pre-partition India. One Sikh, one Muslim; they have little understanding of how religion will divide them. As partition draws closer, the girls remain oblivious to the spreading social unrest and violence. They’re too busy stealing books, swimming in the lake and spying on Rahul (the local hottie). When Naz is betrothed to a tailor from the soon-to-be capital of Pakistan the threat of separation for the young women looms on the horizon. Bound by their love for each other we learn how far they will go to avoid the inevitable. Santi & Naz explores female friendship, coming of age, and coming out set against the backdrop of a country soon to be changed forever. Our Story

Celebrating our 15th Anniversary in 2018, since 2003 The Place Theatre has developed a reputation among audiences in Bedford and the surrounding community as one of the best places to see high-quality and cutting-edge professional ‘fringe’ theatre, as well as being the home of Bedford’s best amateur and student theatre companies.

A year round programme of theatre, music and film presenting a varied programme of work for everyone in the community, spanning children’s theatre, folk music, musical theatre, comedy, as well as our core drama programme. We are dedicated to presenting work with a political edge, bringing the highest quality small-scale professional work and increasing the representation of diverse voices and experiences on the stage in Bedford.

Look for our annual thematic weeks supporting Holocaust Memorial (Jan), Refugee Week (Jun), LGBT history month (Feb) as well as our ongoing strand of work MINDSCAPES which explores multiple aspects of the lived experience of mental health, from professional theatre companies around the country.

The venue holds the Family Arts Standards, and we’re really proud of our #dramasinpyjamas initiative encouraging families and young people to share theatre in our friendly and informal atmosphere.
