After School Fun at John Shelton Community Primary School & Manor Park School!

We celebrated World Book Day with a splash of adventure - using "20,000 Leagues Under the Sea" as our inspiration, we built periscopes that let us see the world from a whole new perspective. After crafting these cool gadgets, we took the crew outside to spy on teachers through a window (just for a bit of cheeky fun 😉) and even spot some wildlife. It was a day full of laughter, discovery, and a bit of mischief!

Last Weekend was all about Science Birthday Parties!

The two science birthday parties that kept me (and everyone else!) on our toes. Saturday’s Minecraft-themed celebration featured Creeper crafts, potions, and paper circuit lamps. I always make sure activities can be adapted for children who need a bit more support, because every child should get a chance to explore science in a way that suits them.

On Sunday, we took things near Draycote Water with a chemical reactions extravaganza, plenty of slime, and a mini (but powerful) rocket launch.

After cleaning up the last bits of slime and rocket fuel, I swapped my lab goggles for hiking boots and spent the rest of the day enjoying the beautiful surroundings with my family.

If your child has a favourite theme or specific requirements, I’m happy to design a party around them. I’ve got plenty of science themes to choose from - and I’m always up for creating something new!

What a lovely morning at the brand-new café Our Cafe at Bedworth Heath Community Centre ! We held an LED art workshop tailored for our local seniors, and it was fantastic seeing how creative (and curious) everyone was. We even had a visit from Rina from Warwickshire County Council , which felt so supportive and encouraging. We combined art and science to create glowing canvas designs - think paint meets electric circuits! It was a relaxed, friendly group (complete with tea and biscuits), and we even connected with local arts club members. We're already talking about collaborating on future projects - I’m really excited to see where that leads!

If you’re wondering whether science and creativity can go hand in hand, this session proved it. We lit up our artwork (literally) and had a great time doing it. Thank you to everyone who joined in the fun and made the café’s opening feel so special!

Hi everyone, I realised I haven’t properly introduced myself in a while, so here goes!

Hi, I’m Kaja - the (somewhat disorganised, but always curious) human behind STEM Goes Wild!

I’m a mum of two lively kids, a total science geek, and a big kid at heart who still climbs trees, explores caves (not in any pro sense!), and cycles whenever I can. I’m the type of person who needs to touch, test, and tinker to really learn - maybe that’s why my sessions are so hands-on and messy!

Here are a few random facts about me:
• I used to hate school as a kid (sitting still + following instructions? No, thank you!).
• If you give me a crucial piece of paper, I’ll probably lose it in five minutes—organisation is definitely not my strong suit.
• In my downtime, you’ll catch me walking or cycling with my headphones on, rocking out to punk, blues, or classic rock.
• I’m a pop culture nerd who loves books, films, and those tiny everyday wonders that spark curiosity.

Why do I do what I do? Because I believe learning should be fun, hands-on, and full of ‘aha!’ moments. If you ever see a session full of slime, eruptions, or random experiments - it’s probably me, still amazed by the small stuff.

Thanks for sticking around and supporting this wild ride! If you’ve got any questions about my workshops - or just want to swap funny kid stories - drop me a comment!

I’m running on fumes after a whirlwind week - but the science adventures must go on!

Last weekend, we brought prehistoric times to life with our Dino Science Party at Bedworth Community Gardens & The Mayor's Cafe , where we dug into fossils and erupted mini-volcanoes (complete with a few mighty dino roars). Then this week, we shifted gears to Captain Underpants, exploring slime and polymers with “toxic toilets” and testing the four forces of flight by designing “flying underpants” gliders.

Our after-school clubs have been busy and tomorrow kicks off another action-packed weekend of parties from Coventry to Rugby. After that, we dive into Narnia, using electric circuits to create magical doors - because science is always an adventure around here!

Wish me luck catching some sleep, and stay tuned for more behind-the-scenes fun!

Captain Underpants invaded our latest STEM club “Fantastic Science and Where to Find It” session, and it was a hilariously slimy success!

We dove into designing “toxic toilets” using slime containers - turns out kids have a real knack for goofy (and slightly gross) creations. Then, we shifted gears to explore the four forces of flight (lift, drag, thrust, and weight). The result? Some very creative plane and glider models - with extra credit if they happened to look like a pair of underpants!

Watching everyone unleash their imagination (and get a little silly) was the best part. Who knew science could be this fun?

What a fantastic time we had at Bedworth Community Gardens & The Mayor's Cafe , right in the heart of Bedworth Miners' Park! 🌿💚 This amazing community café serves delicious vegetarian meals made from veggies grown in their own allotment & gardening centre - and this weekend, we brought some extra science magic to the mix!

🚀 We mixed up bubbling potions, created chemical reactions to inflate heart-shaped balloons ❤️🎈, and got our hands messy with stretchy, squishy, satisfying slime! The kids had a blast experimenting, discovering, and giggling their way through the science fun.

The half-term may be over, and most kids are back at school today, but there’s plenty more STEM fun on the way! Keep an eye out for our upcoming workshops. 👀

💉🫀 My Bloody Valentine: Science of Heart, Blood & Slime 🩸🧪 at FarGo Village Coventry Indie Mart FarGo Village

What an awesome and packed session today at FarGo Village! We dived into the science of blood and the heart with hands-on experiments that got everyone thinking (and maybe a little grossed out in the best way 🤭).

We tested blood transfusions with a fun activity (no real blood, don’t worry! 😆).
Created blood slime, mixing up plasma (yellow glue), red cell glitter, styrofoam white cells, and platelets activator – science has never been this squishy!
Built a working heart pump using cups, balloons, and straws to see how our hearts keep us alive every second.
The energy was amazing, and the kids were brilliant little scientists! 🧠✨

Missed this one? No worries! Our next half-term workshop, My Chemical Romance, is happening in Bedworth at Bedworth Community Gardens & The Mayor's Cafe this Sunday—think potions, experiments, and more slime! 🧪💜

20/02/2025

It’s nearly time for a new term at STEM Club, and I’m ridiculously excited about this one! March is a big month - British Science Week, World Book Day, and (most importantly) my birthday - so I’m bringing it all together with Fantastic Science and Where to Find It.

This term, we’ll be diving into the science hidden in some of the best books ever written—stories full of magic, adventure, and impossible ideas that we’ll bring to life with hands-on experiments. Here’s what’s coming:

📖 Captain Underpants – Silly transformations, slime, and things that take flight.
📖 The Chronicles of Narnia – Step through a magic doorway and spark a new discovery.
📖 Harry Potter – Wands, potions, and a little electrical magic.
📖 Alice in Wonderland – A topsy-turvy tea party full of curious chemistry.
📖 The Wizard of Oz – Defying gravity and forces in action—what makes things rise, fall, or move in unexpected ways?
📖 Howl’s Moving Castle & Dog Man – Walking castles, moving machines, and the science behind them.
📖 Charlie and the Chocolate Factory – Engineering weird and wonderful contraptions.

These books have all been brought to life on screen, showing how science, technology, and storytelling can create something incredible. Now, we’ll be bringing them to life in the lab - mixing experiments with a bit of creative thinking.

Which week are you most excited about? And if you could add a book, what would it be? 📚🔬

What a wild weekend of birthday fun across Rugby, Kenilworth, and Coventry! 🎂 From pirate battles to explosive science and luxury bath bomb making, we packed in creativity, chaos, and a whole lot of laughter.

🏴‍☠️ Pirate Party:
Our fearless little pirates set sail on a treasure hunt, brewed magic potions to reveal hidden maps, and built their own cannons to fire at Blackbeard’s crew! A full-on pirate battle with Air Zookas ended in a slime trap for the sneaky pirate himself. Arrr! 💥

🧪 Science Party:
This one was a true mad scientist’s dream! Confetti cannons, crazy experiments, and of course - slime galore! We explored the magic of chemical reactions, with bubbling potions, fizzy surprises, and interactive fun that had everyone engaged. 🚀

🛁 Bath Bomb & Perfume Party:
This was all about science with style! Our young creators designed their own bath bombs and perfumes, choosing colours, scents, and fizzing ingredients to make perfect self-care treats. The whole room smelled amazing by the end of it! 🌸

Thank you to all the amazing kids and parents who made these parties so much fun! If you snapped any photos, feel free to share them in the comments - we’d love to see! 📸✨

Here’s a little behind-the-scenes look at one of the setups before the science chaos began… 😉

🧟‍♂️ The Zombie Apocalypse is Here… and Our Young Scientists are Ready! 🎯🚀
If the undead ever take over Coventry, I think I know who I want on my survival team! 🏹💥

At Manor Park School, our STEM crew went full-on zombie defense mode, designing launching devices and creating epic target posters to practice their aim. From catapults to mini slingshots, the creativity (and zombie destruction) was next level.

🎯 Engineering skills? ✅
⚡ Quick thinking under pressure? ✅
💡 Unstoppable energy? Definitely.

This session was all about problem-solving, physics, and a whole lot of fun. Plus, who doesn’t love a little post-apocalyptic science? 😎

If YOU had to build the ultimate zombie survival invention, what would it be? Let me know in the comments! 👇👇👇
