Tonight's after-school science club was electrifying! โก The kids had a blast experimenting with static electricity watching our Van de Graaff generator. We made Barbie doll hair stand on end, sent cupcake tins flying, and even created mini lightning sparks! The excitement continued as everyone tried their own static experiments with balloons, making tissue paper butterflies dance and float. Science truly came to life in the best way! ๐โจ

Fascinating Air Pressure Experiment: Balloon Inflation Magic! ๐โจ
In this experiment, we explore the principles of air pressure and its effects on objects within a closed system. By creating a jar with two holes in the lid and inserting a straw through each hole, we establish a sealed environment.
When I exhale air into the straw with the balloon, the air goes into the balloon, obviously making it inflate. But here's the mind-boggling part โ even when we inhale air through the straw without a balloon, it still inflates!
This happens because sucking air out of the jar made the air pressure inside the jar lower than the air pressure outside. When the pressure inside the jar is lower than the pressure outside, air from the outside rushes into the jar through the pink straw. This makes the balloon inflate, even though we are not blowing air into it directly.
This experiment shows how air pressure works and how it can make things happen. It's a fun way to learn about science and how air behaves!

Fill a glass with water, leaving a little space at the top.
Cover the glass with cheesecloth and secure it with a rubber band.
Invert the glass carefully.

Why it works:
Surface Tension: Surface tension is the force that makes water molecules stick together, forming a "skin" on the surface that blocks the holes in the cheesecloth.
Atmospheric Pressure: Atmospheric pressure is the weight of the air around us. It's higher outside the glass than inside, pushing up on the water and preventing it from spilling out.
