Catch Stayin Low with his wold first live producer set @ Common Market - Friday 26th August
The Belfast native has been behind the mixer in clubs across Northern Ireland. Popping his DJ cherry with a sunset set time at an all-nighter on Rams Island, Stayin Low has continued to make a lifestyle of open air DJing, as one of the initial residents on the Terrace at Thompson’s (for funky house focused Musik Sundays with long term colab partner, Chinooq) and the last few summers spent DJing an eclectic selection of groove focused Funk, Soul, Disco and House in both Whites Garden, and The Jailhouse Courtyard.
Together Chinooq and Stayin low played instructions like the Coach and Lush!, and events Cream , and Sunflower Fest. They’ve also held a 5 year residency live-streaming in the hay days of Belfast Underground Radio (BUR) with a monthly broadcast showcasing their style and offering break through DJs a platform to play. Their first play on BUR came courtesy of Defunkt Recordings captain, DJ Jay Kay, who later signed 3 releases and commissioned more remixes from the pair.
Stayin low’s solo work took greater focus during Lockdown when the sudden and very drastic change in lifestyle forced a new approach to working. A change in production direction followed too with a more experimental approach to genre and arrangement. These sketches and genre fusing ideas lead to new musical territory, and with it, a new way to perform the production production process.
This new body of work was a collection of ideas with a definite direction, but lacking a clear form. As part of the creative process Stayin low hosted a live-streamed performance event to the GivingHandsMusic (link below) Private Members Group on Facebook to organically develop arrangements and test the ideas in front of an audience.
From this exclusive live-stream show (review link below), 2 tracks have been signed by Sonar Bliss for release in the Autumn. Sonar Bliss and Stayin Low seem to be in a a golden agreement, with both previous releases (Pure Heart and Peaces of Joy) hitting the top 3 spots in the Raw/ Melodic/deep chart and remixes feedback sheets showing positive words of support from the top tier of underground house and techno players.
Moving forward, Stayin Low’s - Volta (Astir Recordings) is scheduled for release on Friday 26th August and the release party live set takes place in
Belfast’s newest boutique mini fest: BluePrint. The live set spans multiple genres and tempos unified with a distinct sense of personality suited to lovers of eclectic musical influences rolling Breaks, swinging house and urgent techno.
