TK, Takate Kote, Gote, however we call it and in whatever style we tie it, they all have one thing in common; they move the shoulder into internal rotation. This comes with its upsides; it creates a very stable body position, it feels restrictive, it looks aesthetically pleasing. However, it comes with one main downside: shoulder damage. Even the most perfect TK, over the years, can lead to strain on the shoulder joint. There is a price to pay for tying TKs, and the model pays the price. As a rigger, if we want to tie TKs, it is our duty to understand as much as we can about correctly positioning the shoulders in order to reduce this cost as much as possible. As a model, if you are struggling with TK positions, then this workshop will help you to understand why, and work towards finding a solution. Models will learn to feel their bodies, understand how a correctly positioned shoulder feels and the most appropriate movement, or movements, for them to achieve that correct position. Riggers can only go so far, and models need to learn about this to help their riggers optimise the position for them.
In this workshop, we will encourage you to change partners at various points (always optional, of course) in order to have the opportunity to be exposed to a variety or different shoulders and for the models, to feel how different people may move you. This exposure to unique people, presents a great opportunity to grow into your role with a deeper understanding of this position.
