Church & Community Volunteer Award Overall Winner is Redeemer Central, Belfast

“Gathering a diverse group of people to share food has been a privilege, developing friendships with folks we would not meet. Refugees, asylum seekers, the marginalised LGBTQ community find it hard to believe a church space is welcoming and safe.” – from the submission

In response to the cost-of-living crisis and the impact of Covid 19 on mental health, the church established the ‘Long Table’. Every Friday night, volunteers prepare a nutritious meal and eat with those who come to enjoy the company. The judges loved that the Long Table gives people confidence and that guests are becoming volunteers.

This award is run in partnership with the Marsh Charitable Trust.

~ 101 Community Kitchen Fundraising Campaign ~

101 Donegall St is home to a number of groups that form ‘The 101 Community’ including Redeemer Central — a diverse and vibrant church community, The Long Table — a free, weekly community meal, and Anaka Women’s Collective — a charity supporting and advocating for women and children navigating the asylum system.

The building is used daily with over 300 people through its doors each week through a variety of events or activities. Together our shared vision is to create a safe, welcoming and inclusive place that feels like home, where people know they matter and they belong.

As with old, heritage buildings there is plenty of work and upkeep needed and one of the biggest challenges at present is that unfortunately the kitchen facilities are not fit for purpose.

• We would like to completely refurbish and install a new, professional-grade kitchen to allow the current activities to both continue and expand even further.

• So far we have raised £31k from our target total of £45k.

• This is where you can help! We are running this fundraising campaign and we’d love your help to reach our target!! Anything you can give or contribute would be greatly appreciated and help begin a new chapter for us. 🙏
