WOW what a fun packed day yesterday was. For such an easygoing bride she organized one hell of a packed big day that was for everyone. From kids to aduls. They where both stunning. Today a videographer just never turned up to someone's big day and this has happened a few times.

This post is not a name and shame post but an informative one.

When looking for a videographer there are lots of things to look for before you pay your deposit or booking fee. Think of it as a box ticking exercise.

1. Have a look at the style of work they produce if you like it then tick your first box 📦

2. Have a read at the "about" section of their bio, page or Web site. There you will see how long they have been established and what they say about themselves. Tick the box 📦

3. Read customer reviews, as these are an amazing insight into what they do and how they work on people's big day. Facebook and Google reviews are great for this. Now tick the box 📦

4. Know what they offer. Each videography business offers different packages and different types of films. Some short and cinematic and others could be long documentary style films. Tick the box 📦

5. Ask for a copy of the contract they would typically give before you book. The reason for this is to understand what happens if the videigraoher takes sick or use need to cancel or move your date. A contract should cover a lot of situations. This can give you reassurance if you are a worried. Tick the box 📦

6. Now I am sure you have noticed I have not even mentioned price until now. The reason for this is that there are lots of low budget videigraphers who do a great job and then there are some who are not so great. We all start somewhere so there is a videographer to suit all budgets. There us another way to look at it. If you walk into a Ferrari dealership and want one of there cars 🚗 for £1000 you're not going to get one but there is a used cars dealership down the road that completely suits your budget. Tick the box 📦

Over all do your homework. Don't just accept the first company that PM's you directly and go that will do. Make sure it ticks all those boxes 📦

Your wedding videography is not an add on it is an investment into the preservation of your big day.

It's getting out of hand

This is why I keep telling the younger generation to stop avoiding cash!!! ……

Why should we pay cash everywhere with banknotes instead of a card ?

- I have a £50 banknote in my pocket. Going to a restaurant and paying for dinner with it.

The restaurant owner then uses the note to pay for the laundry.

The laundry owner then uses the note to pay the barber.

The barber will then use the note to pay for shopping.

After an unlimited number of payments, it will still remain a £50 value, which has fulfilled its purpose to everyone who used it for payment and the bank has jumped dry from every cash payment transaction made.

BUT

IF I go to a restaurant and pay digitally via Card,

- the bank fees for my payment transaction charged to the seller are 3%, so around £1.50

( and so will be the fee of £1.50 for each further payment transaction )

-for the owner re laundry or
- payments of the owner of the laundry shop,
- or payments of the barber etc.....

Therefore, after 30 transactions, the initial £50 will exist at only £5, and the remaining £45 has become the property of the bank … thanks to all of the digital transactions and fees!

Use it or lose it folks…

Once it’s gone we won’t get it back!

With Mercy Primary Holycross Girls & Holycross Boys Communions coming up. We have booked the Hoben center beside Holycross Chapel for you child's professional communion pictures. I will have prices finalised by Monday. It is at the moment first come first served. These are super quick mini sessions lasting around 5 mins or so each and each get 4 prifessiinal pictures taken of your child and arents ect, max amout of people is four at a time in the one picture. . I know some people think we offer wedding photography and for over 20 years it has only been videography. We said we would never delve into the photography side of things, but....

SKILLED PROFESSIONAL - £2,000

CLIENT – That’s too expensive for this job!
SKILLED PROFESSIONAL – How much you think it should cost?

CLIENT – £800 max! It’s a simple job!
SKILLED PROFESSIONAL – I can’t do the job for so little.

CLIENT – People in your line of work want to make a huge profit!

SKILLED PROFESSIONAL – I’m sorry you feel this way. Why don’t you do the job?

CLIENT – But, but, I don’t know how to do any of that.

SKILLED PROFESSIONAL – For £900, I can teach you everything you need to know to do the job. You can then use £1100 to do the job, and you’re still saving £1,100. Also, you will obtain all the knowledge and the experience for the next time you need to do this job.

CLIENT – Deal!

SKILLED PROFESSIONAL – Great! To start, you need to buy tools. You will need at least three large sensor cameras and lens to go with those, lighting equiptment, professional audio equiptment, camera tripods a drone just to start you off and some other things. Ruffly £15000

CLIENT – But, I don’t have any of those things and I can’t buy all that for just one job!

SKILLED PROFESSIONAL – Ok. I can rent you my equiptment for another £300. You’re still saving £800.

CLIENT – That’s cutting my savings, but I will rent your equiptment.

SKILLED PROFESSIONAL – Perfect! I’ll be back Sunday and can make a start.

CLIENT – Wait! I can’t do sunday. I only have time today.

SKILLED PROFESSIONAL – I’m sorry, I only teach others on Sundays. I have to prioritize my time and my equiptment needs to be in other jobs I have during the week and weekends.

CLIENT – Ok then. I will sacrifice my family’s plans on Sunday
SKILLED PROFESSIONAL – Right, me too! Oh, I forgot. If you’re going to do the job yourself, you need to buy a computer/laptop and editing equiptment. There’s a big price tag on the type of computer you will need to. Starting from around £1500 to £3000. Your editing programes will be around £500 a year

CLIENT – £1500-£3000 and £500 a year? That’s too much for me. I don’t even have that kind of money

SKILLED PROFESSIONAL – I guess you’ll have to rent one. By the way, do you know how to use the editing programes? If not I can teach you for £50 p/h over the next 6 months or more.

CLIENT – You know what? I’ve been thinking. Probably is better for you to do the job. It’s better to pay you to do the job right and not having to go through all that hassle.

SKILLED PROFESSIONAL – Good thinking, sign here and let me get to work. 😉
