Living The Dream......
Welcome to The Hall Of Flowers! I'm Charlene Brookes, based in Belfast, Northern Ireland and I heart floral design!
Working with and 'arranging' flowers for years as a hobby while doing my 'real job' (in the HR world), I always wanted to open my own Florists. In fact my colleague and I used to daydream together about exactly that. She was going to run the little tea rooms next to my Florist shop so our customers could buy beautiful flowers and have a lovely cream tea afterwards! Sounds idyllic, doesn't it?! Never did I believe the dream would become a reality.
There was no seismic shift that made me give up my job (a global HR role with an investment bank no less!) and follow a long-held dream. I just did it. That sounds easy doesn't it? It was, I think. I still broke into a cold sweat at losing a regular salary and it was scary - but I wasn't scared. In fact, once I made the decision it was easy. I booked myself on a course to get a 'proper' Floristry qualification and it took off from there.
Now I have some of the loveliest, regular customers and I get to be part of people's happiest times as well as giving some love at their saddest. I even won a Bank Of Ireland UK small business competition a few months after opening!
