Inspired by ‘Light’ – Roshni: A Diwali Celebration in BelperPart of Derby Season of Light 2025
Join us for a luminous evening of music, dance, and devotion as Roshni celebrates Diwali—the Festival of Lights—in Belper, as part of the Derby Season of Light 2025.
The evening opens with a meditative Kathak performance by acclaimed dancer Jaymini Sahai, offering a prayer to Goddess Saraswati—the Hindu goddess of knowledge, education, arts, and wisdom.
Through graceful movements and rhythmic footwork, Jaymini pays tribute to the divine force that brings order to the universe through knowledge and creativity. This spiritual invocation is followed by Tarana, a celebratory dance traditionally performed during festive occasions like Diwali, showcasing the joy and vibrancy of the season.
Renowned Indian classical violinist and Ghazal singer Pt. Kamalbir Singh will take the stage next, accompanied by the dynamic Arijit Sen on tabla. Together, they will present an immersive musical experience, blending intricate melodies with spontaneous improvisations. Their performance promises to transport audiences into new musical realms, rich with emotion and tradition.
The evening concludes with a creative Abhinaya (expressive dance) performance, choreographed to one of Kamalbir Singh’s soul-stirring Ghazals—an exquisite ode to the beauty of God’s creation.
