Well, today's wedding was an absolute blast. Two very small, very weird, very wonderful people from Scotland and Venezuela tied the knot at the fabulous Grosvenor Picture House, in Glasgow, and they did it their way, with bells, whistles, light sabers, popcorn, movie posters, trailers, 3D glasses and a Lego quaich. Michel is from Venezuela so the entire ceremony was subtitled in Spanish, with the script rolling out in both languages on the screen in true Star Wars fashion. We had a ten minute trailer featuring Ally and Michel interspersed with iconic film moments. We had a bride entering with a light sabre, to the Darth Vader March. We had handfasting, but not as we know it - this is the accompanying text:
Michel, you are holding the hand of the woman who loves that you are her greatest cheerleader.
You are holding the hand of the woman who loves your thoughtfulness, your kindness and your caring nature.
You are holding the hand of the woman whose weird matches your weird.
You are holding the hand of the woman who loves how you can magically coin new words, jokes, dance moves…
You are holding the hand of the woman who loves your creativity.
Ally, you are holding the hand of the man who loves how supportive you are, without being an enabler.
You are holding the hand of the man who thinks your heart is as big as you are tiny, who loves how sweet and caring and giving you are.
You are holding the hand of the man who loves to cry at movies with you.
You are holding the hand of the man whose crazy matches your crazy.
You are holding the hand of the man who sees you as his jigsaw puzzle, his glass slipper, his hyperactive squirrel.
I just love that!
Michel and Ally, you are a fabulous couple, the tiny Federation Funsize team, and thank you so much for inviting me to marry you in such a weird and wonderful way. Mil felicidades, and may the force be with you today, tomorrow and forever ...
