The Reading Rooms website has a fresh new look!
Check it out at www.thereadingrooms.org
It has been moved to a new hosting service over the past couple of weeks and in the process has been redeveloped in a style that displays much better on mobile devices than its predecessor.
If you have a bookmark/favourite pointing to our site you may find that it no longer works. This will be because it is pointing directly to our original hosting service, which ceased to exist yesterday. Just delete it, visit the new site and save a new bookmark/favourite.
Lists public events, classes, etc. happening in the Reading Rooms, plus tells how to hire and what facilities exist. Also gives a brief history of the rooms.

The Reading Rooms are closed from 19th March until further notice, in line with Coronavirus guidance.

'MAYFLOUR 2020' - THE GREAT BRITISH 1620s BAKE-OFF! Come along to the Reading Rooms on Saturday or Sunday and sample some culinary delights based on original 1620s recipes, as may have been enjoyed by the Mayflower Pilgrims: American Gingerbread, Narrangansett Strawberry Cornbread, Jumbals, Honey Cake and 'Collops of Bacon'.
And while you're there, don't miss the special exhibition of work by local junior school children, marking the 400th anniversary of the sailing of the Pilgrim Fathers (and Mothers and Children - including four from Billericay) to America. See what the children have found out about the historical background to the Mayflower Pilgrims' journey - their clothes, food, occupations, and what they would have taken with them.
