🌱Come and join us for Easy Peasy! A workshop all about growing peas. 🌱

We’ll show you how to sustainably and affordably:

Grow outdoor peas
Make pea nets and wigwams
Grow indoor peas for pea shoots
There will be some Pea poetry from local poet and writer Dominic Nelson Ashley, as well as pea-related creative activities for kids to get involved in all things pea!

We’ll talk about Carlin Sunday — the day that Peas saved our Geordie friends from starvation. Share stories, memories and pea-related recipes.

We’ll have the infamous Sow Northern Seed Swap too, so if you’ve got any seeds to swap, bring them along too.

Everyone who comes along will go away with some planted pea seeds, the knowledge to keep growing peas and the option to join the pea growing community.

It would be great if you could bring along either some toilet roll tubes, or a container to grow in, but don’t worry if you can’t, as we’ll have some to share.

THANK YOU to everyone for reducing our impact in terms of travel to the festival back in September! We saw a big decrease in car travel and a big uptake in taking the train. For those who did take up our car parking option here is some detail about how that was offset ⬇️

Again we worked with Ecolibrium to increase low carbon travel and channel donations to climate projects around the world. Our climate investment helped to plant over 136 trees in Northern Malawi, protect 37 acres of threatened rainforest and balance 18.12 tCO2 through a forest & peatland regeneration project in Indonesia.

ThriftFest UpCycled

To all artists, visitors, partners, vendors, volunteers and contractors.

We are upcycling and repurposing this year’s Festival of Thrift in response to 2020… an extraordinary year full of unforeseen challenges and hardships for all of us.

After weeks of careful consideration we have come to the decision, along with our great friends and partners at Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council, that holding a large-scale festival in Kirkleatham will not be possible this year.

However, although our Festival of Thrift event scheduled to take place in Kirkleatham on September 12 and 13 2020 has been officially cancelled, in our true thrifty style, we will instead be going ahead with a repurposed Festival that has had a socially distanced makeover for 2020.
