You may have seen the recent press announcement that our founder, Pauline Quirke MBE, will be stepping back from public life due to her diagnosis of dementia. We have been deeply moved by the messages that we have received, and it has been wonderful to see how many lives Pauline has touched through her work with PQA and in her 50 year career in film and television.

Improving the lives of young people through the performing arts has been PQA’s ethos since Pauline and Steve opened their first academy in 2007 and remains central to everything that we do.

We want to assure you all that things will continue as normal at PQA, and that we remain committed to delivering outstanding performing arts tuition.

We hope you will join us in sending our love and support to Pauline, Steve and their family as well as respecting their wishes for privacy.

📚 OPEN AUDITIONS – MATILDA THE MUSICAL UK TOUR 📚

The RSC are looking for children for the UK touring production of Matilda The Musical.

Q: HOW OLD DO I HAVE TO BE TO AUDITION?

The RSC will audition children for the role of Matilda who are aged 9 to 12 on 1 July 2025, and under 4’3” tall. Her classmates need to be aged 9 to 13 on 1 July 2025. Boys must be under 4’10” tall, and girls must be under 4’6” tall, with brilliant dancing and singing skills! Boys must have unbroken voices.

Q: WHEN AND WHERE ARE THE AUDITIONS FOR MATILDA AND HER CLASSMATES?

Auditions will be held in Manchester during February and March 2025

Q: WHAT DATES DO I NEED TO BE AVAILABLE?

Rehearsals – July and August 2025, in Manchester and London
Performances – September 2025 to June 2026, on tour

All children must be available for the entire rehearsal and performance period. Holidays will only be allowed during nominated holiday weeks, and parents must be able to bring their child to the Manchester rehearsal rooms, The Palace Theatre and/or Manchester Piccadilly train station.

Q: WHAT IF I LIVE OUTSIDE MANCHESTER?

Children for all the roles must be within travelling distance of Manchester, so they can live at home and attend their own schools. You must live within one hour of central Manchester.

Q: WHAT WILL I HAVE TO DO IN THE AUDITION?

You will be asked to perform a short poem, speech or monologue. You will also be asked to sing something and you will be taught a dance from the show.

Q: WHAT TO DO NEXT?

If you’d like to audition, you will need to complete an online form. Before starting the form, the RSC would like you to make two or three 30 second films on your phone. These are sometimes called a self-tape. The quality doesn’t matter, and please, no longer than 30 seconds.

1 A 30 second speech, poem or monologue
2 A 30 second song (unaccompanied)
3 A 30 second dance (optional)

Last week we reached the end of term one of our 24/25 academy year!

We've had a very busy time, prepping for our West End performance with our AM academy, rehearsing for our Christmas performance which was a real CRACKER with our Poppets & PM academy, and starting new & completing existing film projects in F&TV across both academies (not to mention picking up our awards!!)...

We've had a blast and as much as I'm sure everyone will enjoy the rest, NEXT TERM is going to be a SMASHER and we are looking forward to seeing everyone when we return!

PROUD of our PQA Wirral East 'Student Representatives' who attended the Red Carpet 'PQA Northern Film Festival' Cinema Screening in Sheffield on Sunday, where they collected our awards for our films: 'The Magical Wildlife Show,' 'The Witches,' 'Rally: Part 2', and 'Eerie Teddy'!

CONGRATS to all of our students involved, and special mention to Film & TV Teacher Phil for another great set of results!

Things at the academy in recent months have been very busy, rehearsing for our West End performance; getting ready for our Christmas performances; and pushing to get our Film projects over the line before the festivities can really begin!

Shoutout to our amazing students from PQA Harrogate, PQA Hull, PQA York, PQA Doncaster, PQA Sheffield, PQA Lincoln, PQA Leeds East, PQA Barnsley, PQA Halifax, PQA Stockport, PQA Wirral East, PQA Scarborough, PQA Wickford, PQA Chelmsford, PQA Milton Keynes, PQA Amersham, PQA Southend, and PQA Rochester, in collaboration with Sally King. 🙌

Blitz hits selected cinemas on November 1st and will be available on Apple TV+ from November 22nd! 🎥

THE NEWS IS OFFICIAL!

We are delighted to once again confirm that 4 of our films from our AM & PM PQA Wirral East sessions have been chosen to be shown at the PQA Northern Film Festival, along with two of our films from our sister academy at PQA Wirral West!

Our AWARD WINNING FILMS are as follows:

EAST AM & PM:
Magical Wildlife Show (Green)
Macbeth: The Witches (Blue & Red)
Eerie Teddy (Green)
Rally: Part 2 (Red)

WEST:
The Vlog (Red)
AI Education (Green & Blue)

It's great to be able to celebrate our students success in this module, after beating off some fierce competition from across the North, to become 6 out of the 70 films being shown, which were chosen from over 400 submissions from academies across the country!!

A BIG SHOUT OUT to our Film & TV Teams at PQA Wirral East and PQA Wirral West for all of their hard work, with special mention to Phil & Simon, our two Film & TV Teacher's!

These films will be shown at Flagship cinema, Cineworld Sheffield, on 24th November 2024, and we will be in touch with some of our students shortly, to ask them to represent the academy at this event!

All other PQA Wirral films will be shown soon at our next PQA Wirral Red Carpet Cinema Screening, which will be announced in due course!

10 BRILLIANT YEARS OF PQA WIRRAL!

When we started this whole thing back in 2014, we had no idea that we would be here 10 years on, with 3 fantastic academies, full to the brim of wonderful, kind, passionate, talented students, with so many incredible memories of all of the young people we have worked with, and the experiences we have shared within that time, not to mention the incredible staff and parents that have been with us, every step of the way, making all of this happen!

To everyone that has been with us on this journey - THANK YOU, and to everyone that is still with us, we are so lucky and grateful!
