If Seafood City were in Bullring, you wouldn't be able to move for groups of young'uns taking flat-lay Instagram shots before uploading their social media currency as their lobster gets cold. Time for High Chai ! Passan’s hot new Indian Tea room is set to open this weekend

It's a first for Nottingham as entrepreneur Rahul Passan embarks on opening a lavish new Indian afternoon tea room by day which switches at night to a bar specialising in small plates, Indian whiskeys and cocktails infused with spices.

This is the fourth venture for the Passan family who opened Bombay Deli back in 1995 then known as Bombay Sweet Centre. Now under the herald-ship of son Rahul, the 30th anniversary also sees the expansion of the brand into a cool new bar called Passan’s Tea Room and Cocktail Bar.

Opening Saturday 31st May, Passan’s will be located on the first floor of Bombay Deli but the offering and vibe will be very different to the hustle and bustle of the fast-paced deli, on the corner of Carrington Street. Yet the dedication to traditional family recipes and authentic Indian flavours remains the same.

Upstairs, the space has been transformed with richly-coloured and luxurious Indian themed décor, perfect for many different special occasions. It will be unveiled to show a seven-metre dark wood bar as the centrepiece, and an array of dining tables, poseur tables and sofas with seating for 75. The walls are adorned with beautiful artwork featuring jungle cats and mythical elephants.

What can diners expect?

"The idea of this room is for something really different for Nottingham. It will have an Indian theme, traditional, royal, mixed with a bit of heritage, beautifully decorated" said Rahul who is from West Bridgeford.

"There will be drapes and soft lighting. We want it to be an area where customers can feel relaxed and chilled in a comfortable eclectic environment with quilted textured furniture and ornaments imported from India," said Rahul.

Expect elevated Indian-influenced small plates dishes such as Calamari Pakora, Tandoori Duck Breast with Hash Browns alongside the Passan’s Brunch (including Bottomless option) and Passan’s High Chai, with simpler dishes like Spinach Florentine, Pistachio-Stuffed French Toast and Heritage Celeriac.

NEWS: To mark its first birthday in Birmingham and with England’s Lionesses ready to go all the way in the Women's Euros this summer, fan-favourite interactive football venue TOCA Social is serving up the ultimate matchday treat - The Captain’s Choice, a limited-edition ice cream sundae created by England captain and TOCA stakeholder, Leah Williamson; with 50p of every purchase going to We Are Laces, a charity supported and selected by Leah.

Getting women and girls of all levels to lace up and connect with the tournament this summer and beyond; TOCA Social in Bullring has several exciting new initiatives lined up – the first of which is Williamson’s limited-edition ice cream sundae which has now arrived on the menu.

Inspired by Leah’s favourite chocolate indulgences and designed to be enjoyed by every fan, The Captain’s Choice is the perfect way to cool off this summer – whether you’re celebrating with mates, on a date night, or watching the games.

Expect a winning line-up of chocolate and vanilla ice cream, drizzled with indulgent raspberry coulis and chocolate sauce. Leaning into the Lionesses’ favourite chocolate, it’s topped with Buttons and Flake, all served in a classic sundae glass and crowned with a generous swirl of whipped cream.

As a TOCA Social stakeholder, Leah Williamson has led a series of initiatives focused on female participation and support for the women’s game. Since July 2023, these have driven a momentous 35% increase in female attendance at TOCA Social venues and over 300,000 guests at The O2 venue alone.

TOCA Social in Bullring has committed to screening every England game of the Women’s Euro and aims to create the ultimate fan zone for both seasoned supporters and new fans joining the community. With football, cocktails, sharable eats and now an exclusive ice cream collab, it’s the best seat outside the stadium.

A part of TOCA Social’s long-term support of the women’s game, every sundae sold throughout the summer will have 50p donated to We are Laces, a growing sisterhood of football clubs in the UK run for the community, by the community.
