Los Angeles dark-psych and post-punk quintet Black Honey Cult (with Jake Cavaliere of Lords Of Altamont) announce the release of their self-titled debut album on Heavy Psych Sounds this May.

Even the name is mysterious — Black Honey Cult evokes a sense of intrigue and the otherworldly, a fitting moniker for a band born out of deep roots in Los Angeles’ storied underground music scene.

The story begins in the early ’90s, when Johnny DeVilla and Jake Cavaliere first crossed paths, performing in various bands at the legendary JabberJaw, a hub for raw talent and boundary-pushing sound. Fast forward to 2003, when Spencer Robinson joined forces with Jake and Johnny in The Lords of Altamont, solidifying a creative bond that has endured for decades. Over the years, this trio found themselves collaborating time and again, refining their chemistry and exploring new sonic landscapes.

It wasn’t until 2010 that Black Honey Cult began to take shape, though the journey to a definitive lineup was a winding road. After several incarnations, the band finally coalesced into its current form with the addition of Garey Snider on drums, and Travis Petersen on guitar, whose contributions completed the puzzle. Jake and Garey, longtime conspirators with a shared desire to work together, brought their vision to fruition, creating a group that feels both destined and uniquely fresh.

Drawing inspiration from pioneers like The Velvet Underground and psychedelic icons The 13th Floor Elevators, Black Honey Cult infuses their sound with shades of early goth, post-punk, and krautrock. The result? A hypnotic, genre-defying blend of dark, atmospheric psychedelia that transports listeners to another plane, like dropping L*D on Mars.

The band’s sound was brought to life by the legendary Paul Roessler (of Screamers and 45 Grave fame) at Kitten Robot Studios, a perfect match for their haunting and transportive vision. Black Honey Cult stands as a testament to years of collaboration, creativity, and perseverance, offering an immersive experience for those ready to step into their enigmatic world. Dark and soulful rockers Godzillionaire (with Paw frontman Mark Hennessy) have just released a powerful and heart-rending music video for the song "Unsustainable", taken from their new album "Diminishing Returns" on Ripple Music.

The band comments: "It began as most Godzillionaire songs do, a practice jam session. We record all of our practices specifically for this reason. What came from an improvised bass line turned into a collaboration with Slade and Basil of Crying Vessel on the album. Enter Adam Mason, who directed the video for "Absolute Zero" years ago. A fan and now dear friend of the band, Adam once again reached out with his amazing cinematic interpretation of our music. He did not disappoint. Introducing MASSASAUGA a 2-piece fuzz-rock / doom-metal band, who derived their name from the venomous Massasauga (pronounced mass-sa-sar-gah) rattlesnake of North America.

In January 2020, the band emerged from the Victorian terraced housing of Coventry, UK. With Conrad Lummus delivering the cutting riffs and harrowing lyrics, and Adam Stewart powering the thunderous drums, MASSASAUGA started to carve their own slice of the underground metal scene.

With the heavy use of horror and occult imagery to accompany their hard fuzz sound, MASSASAUGA was welcomed into the stoner rock and doom metal genre.

The Midlands duo have a new song coming out called 'Bury the Hatchet', that will be released on the 28th February.
Massasauga comment: It's a brooding and cutting stoner / alternative rock track about trust and betrayal, with a sledgehammer of a riff! It's a little less DOOM than we usually do, hope you all dig it.

Burgeoning Brighton rock band Slung have released their new single 'Collider', which is emblematic of vocalist Katie Oldham’s supreme storytelling prowess. Originally worked on by bassist Vlad Matveikov with Zac Jackson of fellow Brighton band El Moono, the track has a bass heavy, ominous feel as Oldham’s voice floats hypnotically over its pulsating instrumental. "I kept most of Zac’s melodies as I really like the simplicity and drawn out syllables,” she says. “For the lyrics, I came up with a new narrative for this one based on the psych-infused nature of the tune. They tell the story of a cult who are ruled by a deity they refer to as the ‘ritual prophet’ and whom they converse with through the use of psychedelics."

Collider will feature on SLUNG’s debut album In Ways, which is set for release via Fat Dracula on 2nd May. They’ve also announced an extensive UK tour in May to celebrate the full length, and kicked off the year by releasing its first single, the trauma-fueled, ribcage-rattling Laughter, which Oldham says "is about a face-off that’s been a long time coming, and the difficult relationships we can have with members of our family, especially our parents. When we’re children we’re so desperate for our parents' attention and approval that their dismissal or rejection can feel agonising. With an emotionally absent parent, trying desperately to earn love or consideration from someone who isn’t capable of giving it can be so destructive. This hurt can often develop into resentment as we age and we may even later villainise this person, wanting to fight, confront, defeat them."

Oakland, California atmospheric and progressive doom metal conjurers SNAKEMOTHER team up with Bay Area powerhouse Ripple Music for the vinyl and CD reissue of their acclaimed self-titled debut album this April 25th.

Snakemother weaves doom-laden riffs, hypnotic incantations, and Eastern folk influences into a ritual of transformation. Their debut album is a journey through battle cries ("Goldshields") invoking strength, and resilience, shadowed trauma and transformation ("Little Lady"), breaking out of limiting cycles (“Circles”), elemental empowerment ("Sacrum"), liberation ("Mu Rise"), deeply rooted in ritualistic and intentional practices, with themes of mysticism and spirituality. Norway's heavy rock explorers KAL-EL announce the release of their new album "Astral Voyager Vol. 1" this May 16th on Majestic Mountain Records (Europe) and Blues Funeral Recordings (North America), and unleash the fuzz-fueled power of their new single "B.T.D.S.C." on all streaming platforms.

Rising from Stavanger's frozen wastelands, Kal-El returns with "Astral Voyager Vol. 1", their most mind-expanding expedition yet and the first chapter of an ambitious double-album assault to tear through space and time.

Summer and fall 2024 saw the crew locked in at Bridge Burner Studios, building on 2021's "Dark Majesty" momentum and the uplifting "Moon People" EP. The Captain's distinctive soaring higher-register vocals, born from his own sci-fi stories, cut through walls of distortion while Josh and Doffy's guitars weave between crushing heaviness and infectious earworm melodies. Down in the engine room, Bjudas's martial drumming and Knutsen's earth-shaking bass keep the vessel on course at all times.

Emerging from the depths of their 90s rock nostalgia, Free Machine has released the official lyric video for their heavy-hitting single, 'Newborn Wreckage' , taken from their recently launched debut album, Dead Echoes.

"Newborn Wreckage was the first song written for this project, and its success was what ultimately pushed us to expand from a single track into a full-fledged EP," says guitarist Clint Jurgens. "That evil, heavy, trudging main riff came first—maybe as a result of all the pent-up frustration during the Covid lockdowns. It just had this weight to it, a burden that needed to be carried."

Lyrically, Newborn Wreckage explores the turmoil of doomed relationships—whether personal or creative. The song captures the universal struggle of trying to fix what’s broken, even when deep down, one knows it’s beyond repair. "You always think you can make it work. You always try. But sometimes, you have to face the truth—you were part of the wreckage too," reflects vocalist Glenn Bradford.

Back with their musky, technicolor splatter scuzz, The Death Wheelers don’t dare ease the throttle on their drive to create soundtracks to what would be the world’s greatest fictional bikesploitation and gore film fest. These Quebec based zombie grease goons manage to evoke the sticky floor and stale popcorn smell of an old rundown Midnight movie theater with every stroke of a barre chord and bludgeoned snare drum. Theirs is a sound that does Herschell Gordon Lewis, Roger Corman and Russ Meyer proud.

Whereas their previous albums evoked the buzzsaw surf riffs of Davie Allen, Dick Dale and The Cramps, with the thunderous groove of Motörhead, their fourth album finds these troglodytes veering hard into classic 80s heavy metal while still maintaining the compelling urgency of Italian gore gods Goblin. It’s heavier, nastier, more driving and… dosed with pure backwoods möld.

In keeping with their B-movie aesthetic, the recording offers in-your-face, loud tones dripping with stench and nastiness. But it’s also some of the best produced vintage sounding underground metal you can get your claws on in these dystopian times.

Ecstasy of Möld kicks off with the band’s signature sampled dialogue from some forgotten low budget sleaze flick, in which a demented character exclaims he will purify the world with blood… “Loud Pipes Take Lives” is a driving 1-minute, 36-seconds of chugging NWOBHM that spills forth into the thrashy “Homicycle Maniacs.” The title track explodes with a blazing fast opening riff, saturated in a heavy wah-wah lead that sounds like Kirk Hammett jamming with Motörhead. But the action shifts as quick as a bullet through a zombie’s brain into surf textures, and finally a dirge-like breakdown as our imaginary hero torches his home village of the damned. “Way of the Road” gives a nice little nod the “The Immigrant Song” along the way as it bops every brat on the head with a baseball bat. Album closer “Get Laid… To Rest” is the album’s most psychedelic outing, with clean tone Floyd-ian arpeggios easing us out after the ultraviolence drenched intro.
