I feel like I am going a bit mad,a lovely sunny day in September and we’re surrounded by cones and glitter preparing for a Christmas photo shoot.

A new month tomorrow so I’m going to challenge myself to use less plastic and foam in July.

This bouquet is in water but in a jar inside wrapped in paper and presented in a box and has no plastic waste and all presentation material is recyclable but could be just a hand tied bouquet ready to go into recipients own vase meaning less packaging waste 💚

So if you’re ordering flowers and like this idea ask for eco friendly as preferred choice.

Small things count 🌎 oh and let’s hope July just drags on and on and on,these months are flying by far too fast.

To enjoy your flowers longer here are some tips.

It is so important to keep your flowers in fresh water and flower food,changed every couple of days.

Clean those vases in hot soapy water to kill the bacteria that thrive in warmer conditions.

Keep flowers away from fruit bowls,ethylene gas from ripe fruit age your flowers quicker.

Keep away from direct sunlight,a shady cool place is ideal and finally mist your flowers morning and night to keep them hydrated.

Happy hot Tuesday 🌞

Free form ,goes against all flower rules of odd numbers !! and foam free arrangement using locally grown flowers apart from the 2 roses.(mainly from my cutting garden)

💚Jam jar Friday 💚

From this Friday,now that locally grown flowers are readily available and with some other flowers added,I’m going to be doing jam jar arrangements as a special.

The colour choice will be a mixture of summer colours as l don’t always know what will arrive. Photo is an example.

They make a lovely gift if you’re visiting family or just for yourself.

They are collection only and only available on a Friday.

£12.50 each and can be ordered by telephone and there will be some made in shop ready to take.

💚First National Florist Day June 8th💚

A day to celebrate the floristry industry from florists to wholesalers and everyone in between and I’m proud to be part of it and call myself a Florist.
Also celebrating British Flower week and this arrangement is 90% locally grown flowers and foam free.

So this week is the first National Florist Day on June 8th.

I thought I would give you an insight into my life as a florist.

Floristry wasn’t my first career after leaving school I trained as a chef and worked in the Lake District for a few years and then life changed and I returned home,found floristry started college and thought I’ll open a shop( young and eager) and that was nearly 28 years ago.

Life as a florist surprisingly isn’t all about playing with flowers,it’s hard work,early mornings,late nights and the absolute worst thing,book keeping!!

But it is the best job,I’ve been incredibly lucky throughout my career to have created flowers for some incredible projects and been a part in many celebrations happy and sad.

My absolute favourite things though is funeral work ,to be asked to provide a farewell tribute is an honour and conditioning flowers ready for shop display,nothing more satisfying than a perfect display of flowers.

Every year I set myself a project to learn new things and over the last couple of years sustainable floristry has been my thing and funeral flowers in particular,so much to learn and adapt to a way that will work for me and customers requirements.

I love my job 💚

Following on from the sustainable funeral flowers I’ve been making,this is a sympathy posy on a palm leaf base topped with moss and including some locally grown flowers.

Everything in this posy returns to earth with no plastic waste 💚
