Highlights Rural Touring Scheme production Idlib - Storm in the North. Saturday 6 April 7 pm. We make bread - the Syrian way. We hear the story of a displaced Syrian woman. When the dough is ready, the room fills with the smell of freshly-baked bread. We share it with our friends and neighbours – and enjoy it with Syrian Meze.
When he was in Turkey, writer Kevin Dyer was told by a Syrian refugee, ‘Do not forget Syria’. This is our attempt, with baking, and a thrilling piece of drama, to keep the proud people of that country in our minds – with food and a story of hope.

Tickets available from 528673 or online at Highlights website.

Highlights Show - John Hegley present Biscuit of Destiny
Returning to Highlights with a celebratory jamboree chock-full of daft and deft wordplay, sing-along numbers and, against all advice, a selection of ‘drawings’ and other curiosities, John Hegley comes St Thomas Church, Stanhope on Friday 5 May 7:30 pm

Poet, comedian and musician, John Hegley is scandalously talented and marvellous joyful fun. The biscuits in the show derive from a phrase used by Romantic Poet, John Keats: ‘a scarcity of biscuit’ – not the sort of phrase nor spelling you expect from a romantic poet.

The show delves into the more eccentric side of Keats, alongside everyday goings-on in the Hegley homes of now and yesteryear. It includes 7 drawings of elephants, myths, discos, daleks, optional community singing and the search for a sense of self-worth. Designed more for adults, but suitable for the odd nine-year-old.

There are no biscuits.
