RHS Chelsea Flower 2023- I achieved a fabulous gold medal for my " Botanical Spillage" design.
The inspiration behind the botanicals spilling out of an oil barrel is to embody the dissonance between humankind's actions and the fragile beauty of the natural world, as a botanical spillage is a pleasing substitute to an oil spillage.
Bespoke wire pin holders and frames will be made to support the floral stems which are placed directly into water. RHS Chelsea Flower Show Floristry Trade Club

So this is very exciting that the world renowned God father of master florists Gregor Lersch is coming to Newark Showground in celebration of NAFAS North Midlands celebrating their diamond anniversary.
He has certainly been an inspiration to me over the past 20 years.
Looking through his many books, I can only dream of being as creative.
A pioneer in his art form, using nature, his techniques are used throughout the world.
This event is open to all, not just flower club members so if you fancy watching this master at work why not get in touch.
Gregor will be visiting FM the day before to pick from our cutting gardens and I will be one of his humbled assistant at the lunch.
Looking forward to meeting him sooooo much! 😊

This weekend at the fabulous contemporary floral art group 'Group 2000' I was delighted to launch my latest floral demonstration & workshop based on “Techniques and our Craft”.

All seven designs created and given away were based upon wiring skills, manipulated twigs, foliages and exploring ways in which to work more sustainably when supporting and hydrating the floral materials.

It was a great atmosphere and a great day.

Thank you Group 2000, Cheshire for making me so welcome.

One of my more contemporary designs with manipulated 2.0 annealed Stubb wires was drilled into a birch block. The wires are painted to connect the wood with the floral materials.

Demonstrations or workshops relating to these new techniques and crafts are available.

So pleased to have been asked to go on the prestigious list of ‘teachers’ for the National Association of Flower Arranging Societies (NAFAS). I’ve been a NAFAS Area Demonstrator for more than two years but this is a great honour and one I’m looking forward to.

The inspiration and drive for the ensemble of the overdress, headpiece, wristlet and ring was the desire to create something in natural materials with elements of traditional handmade crafts with oodles of techniques to create interesting patterns, forms and contrasting textures.
Natural jute - three-ply – three balls of the finest jute worked together to create pattern and texture.
Macramé is the dominant craft here with different ways in which to create patterns using the knotting technique.
Added to the threads are handmade wooden beads.
Also incorporated, which I am rather proud of are glass droplets from an old chandelier which I purchased for a pound at a car boot sale. This gives greater physical and actual weight to the dress.
This was created for the NAFAS Cheshire Fashion Show.
They also add a little shine. As the dress is made up of natural jute and wood, it does matter that the dress is dominant as the materials are from a living source. The colour enhancement of fresh florals is focused on the shoulders to draw your eye to the lovely Debbie’s face and headpiece.
The fresh florals include Phalaenopsis orchids, Craspedia, Capsicums, Spray roses, Corylus contorta, and Sedum.
The Headpiece is a collection of 10-ply jute, plaited techniques then stitched into a bespoke milliner’s cap, secured using millinery elastic under the hairline.
Wristlet is again a collection of ten ply jute, using the hand crocheting techniques then gathering shape into a decorative form and securing with stitching. The floral materials were support wired and stitched into place.
The ring is a dainty manipulated wired base of 0.71 annealed wires, the technique for securing the wires into place is twisting. Fresh florals are glued using floral adhesive.
