The School has been established in Bolton for 80 years and provides excellent dance tuition in Ballet, Tap Modern, Street, Contemporary, Jazz and more!

Frances Bleasdale's is a family run dance school in the heart of Bolton town centre, with 3 spacious studios and classes for all ages and abilities. For more information please see our website or e-mail us. Our Beginners class starts at age three and we teach children, students and adults a wide variety of dance styles. We also run Street Dance and stretch classes. Specialist coaching classes are

available for students who wish to audition for vocational dance courses. Frances Bleasdale started the school in Bolton in 1930 after a glamorous professional stage career in Paris, appearing at the Folies Bergeres and the Lido. The school became a famous Bolton dance institution. Today the principal is Christine Axon, FISTD, BA Hons, PGCE, Enrico Cecch Dip, Senior International Examiner for Cecchetti Classical Ballet. Despite a power cut and freezing temperatures, the exams went smoothly! Thank you to all parents for bringing their children/young people earlier than expected and for their kindness, help and understanding. Thank you to our unflappable and determined students. Thank you to our examiner, Miss Gillian Hurst, for her patience and understanding whilst the electricity was off. Thank you to our wonderful pianist Laurence Gavan for carrying on playing beautifully, and finally thank you to my wonderful FBSD team for all your help. Love, Christine xx

Our Story

Frances Bleasdale's is a family run dance school in the heart of Bolton town centre, with 3 spacious studios and classes for all ages and abilities. We teach a wide variety of dance styles - read on to find out more!

Frances Bleasdale started the school in Bolton in 1930 after a glamorous professional stage career in Paris, appearing at the Folies Bergeres and the Lido. The school she founded became a famous Bolton dance institution. We start with our Pre-School class at age three, which is a fun way to exercise and develop the imagination. Attending at this age also develops motor skills and cognitive abilities. We then progress through the ISTD examination syllabi in Tap, Ballet and Modern Theatre dance from age 4 to advanced level.We firmly believe in the necessity for dancers to follow a well structured method of training and to take graded and vocational examinations. We have a long track record of coaching successful candidates for vocational college auditions and provide classes for dancers at a professional level. Please get in touch if you would like to study to become a qualified dance teacher. We also offer purely recreational classes - why not try our Adult Tap and Ballet courses? Or our children’s Contemporary and Street Dance? We run Stretch classes for children and students as well. On Fridays, we offer Enable, a fun, sensory half hour session for children with Autism and Down’s Syndrome. A small number of places are available, so please get in touch if you think Enable could help your child.
