Casper (the friendly ghost, as you may know him 👻) is one of my all time favourite films 📹

The "Can I keep you" scene in Casper is one of the most memorable movie scenes of the 90's. But.... it almost didn't happen; originally Casper wasn't ever supposed to become human. The scene was only added after Steven Speilberg brought in to do a rewrite of the script and he decided to change the ending.

In 2018, .sawa tweeted out a thanks to J.J for writing the scene he would eventually get Cast in. Devon Sawa sent a VHS tape down to casting directors and a week later booked the role of Casper. Saying that he has been working ever since.

George Robert Vatistas is a Greek-American filmmaker from Philadelphia. He graduated from the New York college film school in Athens, Greece, where his first movie “The Weapon” was praised by international self-taught director Pantelis Voulgaris. His passion for directing and cinema led him to New York City where George completed his masters in directing at the School of Visual Arts, under Bob Girardi’s directing program. George’s second written & directed film, “The Hobbyist” was awarded with the Paula Rhodes Memorial Award & given to him by SVA as an honours master’s degree candidate.

A bit from .films - Filmmaking thrives on the interplay between the legacy of the past and the innovation of the present. My journey with “The Hobbyist,” my graduate thesis for a Master’s in Directing, exemplifies this balance.
Inspired by my previous short film, “The Weapon,” my fascination with Fredric Brown’s storytelling led me to adapt another of his works. Brown’s ability to blend the ordinary with the extraordinary captivated me, making this project a natural progression in my exploration of his narratives.
“The Hobbyist” is not just an adaptation but a re-imagining that honors and revitalizes Brown’s brilliance. I aimed to create a visually arresting and narratively compelling film that captures the suspense and depth of the original story.
I am proud to present “The Hobbyist” to a global audience that appreciates challenging and enduring stories. This film is a labor of love and a testament to my artistic growth at the School of Visual Arts.
As you watch “The Hobbyist,” I hope you immerse yourself in its intrigue and connect with the storytelling craft. Thank you for joining me on this cinematic journey.

Director Statement "People have argued until they turned blue as the sky about Amelia Earhart's disappearance. Theories run from the politically motivated, to the strange, to the outright silly. Through this film I wanted to put her to rest in the mind of the audience, and to offer the idea that perhaps mystery can allow someone to live on way past their death. In addition, death can be a kind of freedom, and a life lived to its fullest is not a tragic thing. Also that perhaps definitive answers are overrated." @electrawaspfilm is an experimental animated biographical film about the death and life of trailblazing pilot Amelia Earhart. It is a retrospective of her emotional world and an exploration of what drove her to pursue her passion for flying #psychological #ethereal #historical #abstract
