We were recently given a bunch of apples from a school yard that would have otherwise gone to waste. Although a bit brown for us to pop in a crumble, these are a fantastic treat for lots of our team! From the isopods and millipedes to the rabbits and parrots, everyone loves their fruit! 🍏🐇🦜

Happy Birthday to Us! 🥳

Today we’re celebrating a whole year of Walk on the Wild Side! 🎉
Over the last 12 months we’ve delivered over 100 encounters, from Manchester to Hull and almost everywhere in between! 🎊
A massive THANK YOU to everybody that has booked, followed, and shared us, we couldn’t have had such a successful first year without each and every one of you! 👏

🌟To celebrate, we’re giving 20% off to all bookings taken for the rest of November for any encounters taking place before Christmas Day! 🌟

For now, we’re taking the day off to relax and enjoy our accomplishments. Don’t worry, the animals will be getting plenty of extra treats today, too 🍾

POV: you’re Bramble’s dinner 🍽️

“Is it poisonous?” 🤔

This is a question we get asked frequently when we bring our snakes to encounters, so thought we’d pop a quick explanation below 👇

☠️Poisonous - ‘if you bite it, you die’
The toxin is ingested, inhaled, or absorbed through the skin to cause injury
☠️Venomous - ‘if it bites you, you die’
The toxin is injected into the body to cause injury

This means that most deadly snakes are venomous (not poisonous) as their venom is injected into their subject with a bite.

HOWEVER

All of the snakes you will meet from our team are NOT venomous (and definitely not poisonous!) ❌

To own a venomous snake in the U.K. you must have a Dangerous Wild Animal licence; the same one that covers lions and tigers! 🐯
This would also mean that they cannot come into contact with the general public (as we do with our encounters) because there would be a risk to public safety.
There are a few exceptions for ‘rear-fanged’ venomous snakes, such as hognoses and false water cobras, but we don’t currently have any of these guys on our team 🐍

Everybody say hello to Bramble!
Bramble is a red-footed falcon and the newest addition to our bird team. She’s getting into the swing of things very quickly, and will soon be off the creance and flying completely free 🦅

Did you know? 🤔

Bearded dragons are semi-arboreal, often climbing to a vantage point so they can look around for things to eat and spot any danger that might be approaching.
Cinder loves to sleep at the highest point possible, but she’s usually tempted down with some tasty bugs or raspberries! 😋

Zorro is quilling! 🦔

For the next few weeks our Pygmy hedgehog will be off the handling team, as he replaces his baby spines with slightly bigger ones. This is a very uncomfortable time for hedgehogs, so we’re going to make sure he can have a relaxing warm bath and plenty of time to himself until the process is complete 😊

We’ve got an unexpected new addition: baby sunny stick insects! We’re pretty sure both of ours are female, but there’s a chance they could have mated at the shop prior to coming home with us. We’re excited to see how many more hatch! 🐜

How cute was baby Biscuit?! 😍 This video was taken last June when he’d only just come home with us. He wasted no time going to town on our veg planter! 🥬🐰
