The haunted (but raging) face
of a woman (me)
who has had to negotiate finding a venue
(with the wrong address)
in East Kilbride

Anyway, after I finally found them
I spent a cracker afternoon with the members of
U3A in East Kilbride

I was their guest speaker, talking about
the practicalities and the politics of Humanism, being a Humanist Celebrant, Chaplain and schools visitor, HSS campaigns and how having a Humanist belief system has changed over the years

I had not encountered U3A before-
what an amazing organisation
google it-it is brilliant

than two waggy tails?
Three waggy tails

We got this super needy wee guy
in the spring
Chomsky and Tomlin’s wee brother

He is feart of absolutely everything
Requires your full attention at all times
And when you are not looking at him
talking to him or cuddling him
he puts a paw right in your mouth

And he is one this very day

The Equal Marriage Bill in Scotland
was passed ten years ago

These things don’t “just happen”
Rights have to be campaigned for
Rights have to be fought for
and alongside Equality Scotland
Humanist Society Scotland
campaigned for the right for people in Scotland
to marry the person they love

Malc and Joe were chosen
by Equality Scotland
to be the very first same sex couple
to be legally married “after the bells”
as 2015 arrived

The room was full of
Joe and Malc’s families and friends
and tons of celebrants from
Humanist Society Scotland Ceremonies

The poet, Liz Lochhead
wrote the poetry for the ceremony

The atmosphere was electric
The law had been changed
Love is Love ❤️🌈

Got to spend time with my family and pals

Got to marry some amazingly in-love people

Got to write the life stories
of some cracking people

Got to name some stunning wee babies

Got Brian Cox (actor, not scientist) to be an ambassador for Humanist Society Scotland

Got to go to Scout Camp and organise Pride

Got to be in Scout Gang Show

Got to be Calamity Jane
(which I have dreamed about since I was four and I was high as a kite for months)

Who knows what I will get to do in 2025
(whatever it is, it’ll have to wait till I get back from holiday)

Hope you all get to do

In April 2023
we went to Perthshire
to pick up this wee guy

How great is he?
SO great that twelve weeks later
we went back to Muthill
and got his big sister
AND this spring
we went back again
to get his wee brother

Our big wee tiny guy
laid back and funny

He prances about like a dressage pony
and he just loves cuddles
going to Scouts
sitting on cushions
and watching a good television drama

He was born on Hogmanay 2022

So happy birthday to Chomsky
our wee gorgeous 🤎
