It’s picnic weather. Go out and enjoy the weather and let us worry about the food. All you need is a blanket. We’ll take care of the rest. Bespoke picnics in a box. Fully recyclable boxes and cutlery. Drinks in cans or glass.

Ants and rain? Methinks the British are very stoic about those.

So take yourselves off to King’s Cliff or the nearest park and enjoy the summer.

All this and a cooked English in top of it.

Hint for the day. Make a big batch of crumble topping and keep it in the freezer for when you need a quick dessert. Just add fruit, any fruit will do. Sprinkle with sugar to taste, add a generous layer of crumble and bake at 180° for 30-45 minutes.

Easy to remember recipe for very tasty crumble topping. All quantities by weight, not volume.

1 part oats
2 parts Demerara sugar
3 part butter
4 parts plain flour.

Blitz together the butter and flour until you have a small crumbed mixture.
Stir in the sugar and oats.
That’s it

I usually add some spice to the mixture, depending on what’s underneath. Cinnamon or cloves for apple, orange rind for rhubarb and mixed spice for plums.

The mix won’t clump together in the freezer, it can be easily scooped out. Why not freeze some fruit raw when here is a glut for use in winter.

Triple chocolate Bundt cake. Dense and moist and chocolaty. Ideal for a rule of six tea party as there will be 2 slices each. There’s more to life than chocolate but not much. Besides, Lent is over.

While we still can’t cater, we still have to eat. Pork tenderloin, stuffed and rolled with apple, cranberry and pecan nuts. Looks like a fish somehow. Maybe it’s the Easter vibe. We do this as part of our party and wedding menu as well.

It’s been a year since our first lockdown delivery. Bangers and mash.

I can’t believe it’s been that long. All of us have struggled in our own little way but we all got through it. Some of us had Covid, some of us lost loved ones and most of us was affected in one way or another.

Well we’ve survived the year. We’re not doing the deliveries any more but will always entertain requests of any nature.

We’re putting the final touches to a package that we can offer delivered al fresco for your 6 guests. A BBQ is definitely in the pipeline along with picnics and brunch platters.

In the meantime look in our shop for cakes and treats. Remember Easter is around the corner.

Rosemary and orange chocolate tart with hazelnut praline.

Very subtle and very delicious.

Served with some whipped cream or creme fraiche.

Delicious.

Here’s a tip for you. Line your plastic tubs with clingfilm if you want to freeze leftover bolognese or curry. It won’t stain your Tupperware and you can take it out the tub when it’s frozen.

You can thank me later.

Mushroom soup in the making. Soon we’ll be able to offer our services again once lockdown is finished. Keeping a hand in while we can’t. We’ll be ready when you are.

22/02/2021

We’re listening to the latest announcements about the lockdown easing. Once we have everything in writing we will update you with our plans. Dates for your diary to follow. Kick it all off with a picnic I your garden with another family.

Yum. Pancakes.

16/02/2021

It’s Mardi Gras/Pancake Day/Fat Tuesday. Here’s a quick recipe:

1 cup flour
1 cup water
1 egg, separated
1 teaspoon baking powder
Pinch salt

Whisk together the flour, water and egg yolk. Let stand for an hour.
Add the baking powder and salt.
Whisk egg white until stiff, fold into the batter. Dilute as you think necessary. It should be reasonably pourable.

Splash some vegetable oil in a pan and wipe it clean with a paper towel. Fry until light golden brown, flip and fry and enjoy. Wipe pan with oily paper towel after each pancake. (The first one is always a mess, eat it in secret).

Topping of choice in this household is cinnamon sugar and lemon juice but knock yourself out with the Nutella.
