I am just sitting at the top of my garden on this beautiful morning reflecting on my little celebrant journey. I looked up from writing a eulogy I am working on and this beautiful sunbeam was shining down. It all just felt so surreal in that moment and felt like it was all meant to be. When I started off on this celebrant path I really thought I would only be doing weddings as I didn’t know whether being a funeral celebrant was the right path at the beginning, but I have come to understand the importance of this role so much more as time has gone on. Last week I conducted the most lovely service for an amazing man and his lovely family, and I can honestly say it’s an honour and a privilege to be asked 🙏🏻 The role of a celebrant is not to just to turn up on the day with a generic script, but to meet up with the bereaved and really listen to how they would like to represent their loved one. Gently asking questions and helping to guide them and support them through a very difficult time, with empathy and compassion. Looking at things through their eyes and not your own and trying to capture the essence of that person and their life and then putting it into words. So I just wanted to make people aware that I also conduct these services or “celebrations of life” as we called our service this week ❤️
