I defy anyone who says they don’t like chrysanthemums not to fall in love with these! ‘Emperor of China’ is the latest one to join the party and I adore its small pink flowers with spoon shaped petals. What’s not to love?

The dahlias just keep on giving... We’ve been lucky enough to escape an early frost here so I’m still able to harvest gorgeous buckets like this. With the shorter days, they’re definitely slowing down (just like me). I don’t have the volumes I had last month but knowing that they’ll be gone soon makes them even more precious.

We’re coming to the end our season now. You can feel it in the weaker stems and the slightly faded, washed out colours in some of the dahlias. It’s nearly time to stop selling the flowers and concentrate on the soil and the plants.

In many ways this feels like the beginning of my year rather than the end. I love the feeling of having a blank canvas full of possibilities and renewed hope.

Today we uncovered and mulched the daffodil beds. They’re shooting already! 😍

I love making autumn bridal bouquets. (Though Lucie might say otherwise having witnessed me battling to get the dahlias to do my bidding!) They have sumptuous colours and beautiful varied textures. This one contained dahlias, grasses, phlox, chrysanthemums, feverfew, ammi, asters, cosmos, daucus and jasmine grown here at Little Park Flowers. . All held together with the most beautiful two-toned silk ribbons from

The dahlias have been amazing! Each week I cut them all and each week they bloom again.

I’m hoping they’ll carry on for a few weeks longer but there’s a very cold night in the forecast…😳🌱🌱

My lavender path in the rain..
It never gets watered so this was so welcome! In fact the whole cutting garden is delighting in the relief of it. Perfect timing to help bring on the next phase of flowers for all the late summer weddings.
Dahlias next!

Sometimes I love yellow…

It’s a season thing. Yellow is fabulous in spring..it’s definitely its time when the gardens are full of daffodils.

But as the season turns from early summer to high summer, yellow starts to work again for me. The grasses are turning golden and the light is different, warming up all the colours.

More than any other colour, my customers often say they don’t want yellow.

What do you think? Is yellow the most maligned colour?

It’s been a good year for the roses…and my sweet peas, after a rocky start, have never been better!
It was pure joy to wander the cutting garden in the sunshine yesterday morning, selecting all the shocking pinks and oranges for a wedding today. The scent was incredible!

There’s a new workshop up on the website for July 27th in case you fancy coming to smell for yourself😊

Thank you Susie, for choosing to use locally sourced British flowers..

Today is the start of British Flowers Week so I thought I’d share my thoughts on some of the things that make our flowers different, especially if they’re grown outside and naturally in tune with their environment.

The main thing, I think that sets them apart is their movement. Stems that bend and twist and dance in the vase, that grow and change before your eyes…creating a mini drama to watch unfold in your home.

The second thing is their scent. So many, factory farmed flowers have been bred to be bigger, straighter, stronger and in that breeding they have lost a lot of their glorious scent.

Then there’s the knowledge that our flowers have not been grown at the expense of the environment but rather have contributed to a wider biodiversity on their plots which now form a beautiful patchwork of small pockets of heaven for insects, birds and flogs ( not to mention molluscs, voles, mice and moles! ) the length and breath of the British Isles.

Finally, there’s the beauty of seasonality. Our flowers give a sense of place and time, grounding us in the present moment whilst also bringing memories of previous seasons and moments with people we love.

If you would like to find out more about British Flowers head to . Many of our members will be opening their farm gates this week for a variety of flower filled events. You can find the nearest one to you by visiting https://www.flowersfromthefarm.co.uk/ and entering your postcode in the Find Flowers search bar.

If you’re near to me in Brimpton, I am hosting a small gathering on Saturday 8th June and you can find the details in my bio above. It would be lovely to see you!

A few times a year, I do full service wedding flowers and last weekend I had the joy of decorating the very special St Mary the Virgin Church in Bucklebury. I have enjoyed this church for over twenty years. Attending christenings, funerals, musical performances and even singing in it myself. It was a delight to work in and the community affection for the place was clear to see in the care of old friends and neighbours working to get it perfectly beautiful and ready for this local wedding.

The flowers were designed to fit gently into the natural meadow that surrounds the church and to enable them to be moved after the ceremony to the reception marque in the groom’s parents’ garden.
It’s quite a mission moving flowers(!) Lucie and I waited down by the ford (another favourite place of mine), until we heard the bells pealing along the valley, before hurrying back to stagger down the path with our huge urn and the meadow boxes and get them into place at the reception before the wedding breakfast started.

I enjoyed every minute but wedding florists, I take my hat off to you. Some of you do this every week throughout the year come rain or shine! I think you must be made of stronger stuff than me!
I’m happy to be having a gentler week back in the garden and harvesting flowers.

As you can see, yesterday was a beautiful, creative day in the flower barn. Four lovely people, a warm fire, delicious lemon polenta cake and buckets of the most exquisite tulips …. a welcome refuge from the challenges of life. Inspired by dutch master flower paintings and by the flowers themselves, my workshop allowed some time to experiment, to feel our way to a satisfying composition and then to have a play with the moody lighting typical of the paintings to create a lasting memory of the day.

Thank you so much for coming everyone! I hope you enjoyed the time out as much as I did?

Imagine arriving here to this barn full of freshly picked flowers from the cutting garden, and being let loose to play with them all!… then perhaps stopping for cake and tea and a sit down in the garden or maybe strolling amongst the flower beds with a small glass of fizz?

Our flower workshops are such a treat for the senses and a complete antidote to the tough stuff that’s going on in the world outside. There’s no pressure to produce a masterpiece, (though you might well do!) …just a simple desire to share our absolute delight in each and every flower that nature produces.

There are two workshops coming up soon, on Saturday April 27th and Saturday May 4th…both will be making the most of the last of the tulips while we can, along with a sweet shop full of other treasures. I’d love it if you could join me😃 https://littleparkflowers.co.uk/

My Story

Hello, I’m Jill and I am starting out on my forth year as a grower and arranger of exquisite, seasonal flowers. My flowers are grown with love and care in a small cutting patch in Brimpton, Berkshire, and can be bought directly from me during the growing season (March to December). I grow all my flowers as sustainably as possible, without the use of harmful chemicals and pick them at their very freshest. Please get in touch if you’d like to buy flowers for events, weddings, funerals, gifts or simply just for you! I run workshops and pick-your-own days throughout the season so if you would like to be the first to hear about them please send me your details and I will add you to my newsletter list. Alternatively, follow me on instagram for a more regular update of happenings on the farm.
