'The M shed today was a great time for reflection. I wrote this when I was 9. Urban Escapes was my first ever encounter with a youth club. I'd joined excited by the prospect of building the roundhouse. Mentored by Ben, I learned and experienced so much. Back then I had no idea how much that would shape my life. The more involved I got, the more deternined I became to make a difference in my community. 11 years later and I'm a youth worker myself, just starting on my journey to hopefully help and inspire the next generation and am running community events with the aim of connecting communities through creativity. I've still got a lot to learn and am incredibly grateful to still have Ben as a mentor-along with many other incredibly inspiring people I've met along the way. Sometimes it's good to look back, to remind yourself of how far you've come, how you got to where you are, and who and where you want to be heading going forward' Catherine, Team Creative Waves

We couldn't agree more! We're constantly encouraging people to get involved and have their say because the voices that need hearing the most are those going unsaid. Everyone's experiences are different so to truly represent the needs of any community a wide variety of opinions need to be heard. True change shouldn't be easy, it shouldn't be quiet or gentle, it's not sat around a room with everyone nodding in agreement to one speaker based on their experience or opinion. True change should be a challenge, it should be loud and brash and pushing against the norm, trying to find ways to fit everyone's needs. If everyone's on the same page you're reading the wrong book

It's World Mental Health Day. A perfect reminder to stop and take stock of how you're doing and to reach out and check on your friends/family/colleagues/neighbours... A healthy mind is as important as a healthy body. Most of us will agree that we could at least do with fitting in a little more self care time. Perhaps take a walk outside and appreciate the little things you notice, get back to nature sat under a tree listening to the birds, express yourself through creativity, get your body moving and your mind clear with a swim or run, even just put your phone to away to sit and really savour that coffee break in peace. These little things really do make a difference.
If you're struggling there are many organisations out there ready and waiting to help. Remember you matter and you're not alone.

We are absolutely delighted to announce that we'll be at Storytale Festival on October 26th at the M shed Bristol with our Comic Chaos workshop 🤩 You can book now through the Storytale website to join the fun! We're so excited 🥳 We'll have masks to decorate, figures to customise, everything you need to create your own comic strips and some books and comics for inspiration 🌟

We've started running workshops and free creative play sessions in collaboration with other organisations across the city. It's been an absolute blast and we've loved each and every one so far. We're passionate about inspiring creativity in as many ways as possible and love the challenge of tailoring ourselves to the vibe of different events. You might have noticed we've been a bit quiet the last couple of days. That's because Team Creative Waves has been in York celebrating Catherine at the Places for People Community Matters Awards. Catherine says 'It's an honour to recieve this lovely award, particularly as it gave me to opportunity to meet so many amazing community champions from all over the country. Their stories were really inspiring, ordinary people doing extraordinary things, going that extra mile to make their neighbourhood a better place, to help those around them. Huge well done to all the young people who joined in our open mic session on Sunday. Performing in front of so many people can be a scary prospect but you all did amazing 🤩🥳
