This last fortnight our shed has been bursting with buckets and buckets of dahlias. September is their month and they’re standing defiantly before all the growing challenges of this year.

Constant unrelenting pests have meant we lost the lions share of our white and pastel tulips in the Spring. You guessed it, the bright red ones they left alone!

Hungry slugs have taken a lot of our seedlings out, munched some dahlias repeatedly to the base and in spite of re-sowing 4 times. We are still missing some key varieties. We’re hoping for a harsh winter to kill next years slugs… but just not starting this Friday with super low night time temperatures please! 🙏

And we’re back!

For the first time since we started the wild zinnia we’ve had a holiday at the same time! Thank you to and Emily for keeping our babies alive whilst we were away.

The field was overflowing with flowers when I arrived today. A good thing too because we’ve got a very busy week ahead. Nothing like jumping in at the deep end.

So here are the first buckets picked this week.

I promised myself I wouldn’t leave it too late this year!

These beautiful ones are not standard flowers from a packet. They’re all pop up surprises which are a little bit different from what they’re meant to be! And they absolutely mustn’t be cut so they’re labelled, in fact every stem is labelled so no one coming for flowers and tea picks them, so I don’t pick them, and so they have time to set seed before the mornings turn damp and it’s too late!

Picking to a palette is one of our favourite things! It’s the culmination of all the winter planning, seed sowing and constant revision of the flowers we grow. This bucket, this is the middle of our colour palette, what we always want more of, so as we harvest seed from the poppies, divide the astilbes and wait for the first dahlias if we’ve planned it right, there’s many more buckets of apricot to come!

It’s Monday and with this weekends record temperatures I know what I’ll find in the polytunnel today… open poppies! With 5 small ones between us we don’t work the weekend so Monday is always a day of catching up with the field.

The seedlings will be gasping for a drink, the leatherjackets cowering beneath the surface knowing this is the day for treatment 3 of the nematodes (this weeks water more soggy forecast making it a perfect day to get on with it!) and the dahlias will carry on going out into their forever homes. Happy Monday x

It’s Earth Day today; so it seems like the right kind of day to share how we’ve decided to do farewell flowers differently.
If you come to us for Farewell flowers we’ll ask you to meet us on site at our farm. We’ll chat flowers with birdsong in the background, we’ll leave you with your thoughts and your memories and ask you to choose your favourites for your loved one’s final farewell. We’ll do the arranging, we’ll use zero plastic products; making our flowers perfect for green burial sites and we’ll deliver them all for you.
You’ll get flowers you’ve chosen, perfectly in their season and we’ll all tread a little lighter.

Here’s a casket spray from last week, flowers chosen by her family, designed to be taken apart after the service for the family to all take a bunch away with them.

It’s here! After weeks of Icelandic poppies creeping into buckets in 2’s and 3’s the sunshine of the last week has seen them up their game and we’ve now got quantity!

But they’re hot property so if you want them get it in our books! Always picked in cracked bud and ready to open when you want them.

➡️for the yellow rogues now consigned to our gardens so they don’t ruin the Perfect apricot palette!

Wishing you all a very Happy Easter.

This window installation at Emmanuel Bishopston makes me smile every time. The smiley narcissi, perfect primulas and buds shooting from bulbs, reminding us of a promise of hope. We also had the assistance of the smaller members for our gorgeous eggs and they did an excellent job so thank you to them!

A little round up from the farm this week. It’s always tempting to think that after each cold snap, that’s it and Spring has begun; but I know better than to rely on yesterday’s sunshine!

It’s the time of year when we start to think about Mother’s Day flowers; quite what we will have in flower is always a gamble… but scroll to see the contenders. It’s looking good!
