World Bee Day is an annual event that aims to raise awareness about the importance of honey bees and other pollinators. The United Nations designated this day to educate people about honey bees and their impact on biodiversity. For instance, honey bees are responsible for pollinating one out of every three mouthfuls of food we eat. However, honey bees are facing the threat of extinction.
According to a report by the Center for Biological Diversity and the Bombus Pollinators Association of Law Students in 2021, American honey bees have declined by 89%. Therefore, World Bee Day is an opportunity to educate people about the harmful effects of pesticides, climate change, and habitat loss on honey bees. It also highlights what we can do to protect these vital pollinators and reverse their decline.
