Merry Christmas Old Sodbury

23/12/2024

When Santa came to Old Sodbury…

Thank you to all who joined us to sing carols at the church, meet Santa and friends, and finish with a singalong on the green.

We would like to say a massive thank you to The Original SANTA FLOAT They are a group of volunteers who spend their evenings and weekends throughout December bringing joy to families in and around Bristol with their Santa sleigh to raise some much needed money for children's hospitals in the South West of England, with a main focus on the Bristol Children's Hospital.

A big thank you to Old Sodbury resident Simon and all the crew (including young Toby!) who made this happen at short notice and managed to squeeze in the visit to the village within their busy schedule.

If you enjoyed yesterday's event and can spare a couple of pounds, please donate using the link at the bottom of this post.

Lastly, if you took any photos or videos that you are happy to share, please add them to the comments below.

LAST DAY TO HAVE YOUR SAY

Old Sodbury - Pedestrian crossing

Redcliffe Homes backtracking on commitment

PLEASE SHARE THIS WITH YOUR FRIENDS AND NEIGHBOURS

For more than 40 years there have been efforts to get a pedestrian crossing over the Badminton Road in Old Sodbury. There has never been the necessary support from South Gloucestershire Council or the money to do it. Not until the new development of 35 houses at Brooks Close.

When planning permission was granted for those 35 houses there was a commitment by the developer(in a S106 Agreement) that a controlled crossing would be built near to the centre of the village. The Planning Inspector said that a pedestrian crossing was “necessary”.

The cheapest type of “controlled crossing” is a Zebra crossing but a Zebra crossing would not be safe because of the traffic speeds and not permitted by SGC Highways. We need a light-controlled crossing which would be suitable but more expensive.
Redcliffe Homes, and potentially South Gloucestershire Council, are seeking to avoid this cost by amending the S106 Agreement, removing the commitment to the crossing and replacing it with traffic calming measures.

We have an opportunity to comment on this application until 19 December and if enough of us object before then, we can help turn this around. Please find a few minutes to let South Gloucestershire Council know what you think of Redcliffe Homes

Application to avoid building a suitable (light controlled) pedestrian crossing.
The planning application reference is P24/00006/MOD
