Lavender season is in full swing, but did you know you can use the flowers to flavour your cooking?

This is one of many edible flowers that you may already have growing in your garden. Today I made cupcakes, and I used lavender from my garden to flavour some of the sponge, finishing them off with a sprinkling of edible petals.

Lavender can be sprinkled in/on to sweet or savoury dishes, or added to drinks. You can also use it to infuse honey, sugars/syrups and oils. The flavour can be quite potant, especially when using it dried, so remember a little goes a long way.

PLEASE NOTE: If you are using edible flowers, be mindful to ensure they are chemical free. It's always best not to use flowers from recently purchased plants as they may contain chemical residues. If you are buying in flowers specifically to use for food, then make sure you're buying food grade - there are plenty of growers who specialise in this and can send by post (I am not one of them 😄)

Forget me not....I don't get to use them very often as they are short stemmed, but forget me nots are such beautiful, dainty little things with a special meaning of remembrance and true/faithful love.

I always try to include them in sympathy flowers where I can, and I have used them twice for funeral arrangements this week.

Did you know that the Latin name for forget me nots is Myosotis, and that they symbolise the human desire for loyalty and are a symbol for shared secrets?
