Makar Sankranti is celebrated across India and in some neighboring states under different names and cultural variations. Here are the other festive names for the same day:

1. Pongal (Tamil Nadu)
A four-day harvest festival where people thank the Sun God and nature for a good harvest.

2. Lohri (Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh)
Celebrated on the evening before Makar Sankranti with bonfires, dancing, and singing, it marks the harvest of sugarcane.

3. Uttarayan (Gujarat)
A kite-flying festival celebrated with enthusiasm to mark the Sun's journey northward.

4. Bhogali Bihu (Magh Bihu) (Assam)
A harvest festival featuring community feasts, bonfires, and traditional games.

5. Suggi Habba (Karnataka)
A harvest festival where farmers honor the Sun God and celebrate the new crops.

6. Khichdi (Uttar Pradesh and Bihar)
People prepare and eat khichdi (a rice and lentil dish) and bathe in holy rivers to mark the occasion.

7. Maghi (Punjab and Haryana)
The day after Lohri, people take holy dips in rivers and pray for prosperity.

8. Shishur Sankrant (Kashmir)
Celebrated in honor of the Sun's movement into Capricorn.

9. Poush Sankranti (West Bengal)
Marked by making sweets like pithe and payesh, it celebrates the harvest of rice and date palm jaggery.

10. Tila Sankranti (Maharashtra and Goa)
People exchange sweets made of sesame seeds and jaggery with the message of goodwill: "Tilgul ghya, god god bola" (Take sesame sweets and speak sweetly).

These regional variations reflect the cultural diversity of India while celebrating the same celestial event: the Sun’s transition into Capricorn.

🙏 We wish you all a very Happy Lohri.
