Forró is the most popular style of dance and music in Northeast Brazil, and has been sweeping across the country with its infectious rhythms and vibrant energy, captivating people of all ages and backgrounds, making it a cultural phenomenon nationwide. Forró is a native Brazilian pair dance and musical style with steps that are easy to pick up. Our lessons are suitable for complete beginners and '
forrozeiros' alike. We have classes every Monday:
- Intermediate: 7pm - 8pm followed by social dance until 8.45pm
- Beginners: 8.45-9.30pm

Marcos Affonso é um professor de dança baiano e brasileiro, criado em Salvador e sua jornada com a dança começou na infância, em uma cidade repleta de diversidade cultural.
Aos 22 anos, iniciou sua profissionalização, investindo em uma variedade de cursos de formação, incluindo forró, danças populares e sociais cubanas (com estudos em Havana), samba de gafieira e tango.
Em 2010, graduou-se em dança pela Universidade Federal da Bahia. Ele ensina forró estilo roots e forró universitário, destacando-se também por suas pesquisas sobre musicalidade, conexão com o outro e novas possibilidades de movimentos, que vão desde a criação espontânea até a inter-relação do forró com outras danças

Scurinho Zabumbada cresceu ouvindo o som do seu pai, Ararão do Nordeste, grande acordeonista e um exímio compositor. Aos 8 anos já compreendia as batidas rítmicas da zabumba e conseguia executá-las com grande facilidade. Acompanhou grandes artistas como: Elba Ramalho, João Silva, Dominguinhos, Tiziu do Araripe, bem como fez parte do Trio Juriti, cantando e tocando zabumba.

It’s a close and comfortable dance that’s all about relaxing and connecting with your partner. If you enjoy salsa, you'll love forró and its contagious rhythms.
Classes & Socials
We have beginners/improvers classes on Fridays from 7-8 pm with Denis Veloso, and intermediate/advanced classes on Mondays from 8.30-9.30 pm with Jonathan Genet. Our weekly social is on Monday evenings from 9.30-10.30 pm. It’s free and everyone is welcome to attend!
All of our classes & the social are held at Cotham Parish Church Hall, BS6 6DR. Classes are £8, £6 students or can be booked through MoveGB. We also offer 5 classes for £35 or £14 for two classes in one week (discounts are cash payment only).
Parties
We also have parties every one or two months to get everyone together to dance, often with a live band and a special class given by a guest teacher.
Whether you’re a forró enthusiast, a social dancer or if you want to know what on earth it’s all about, come and give it a try! You don’t need to bring a dance partner, just wear some comfortable clothes and flat shoes.
