What a cracking addition to the festival roster was on Saturday. Helped along by our Number 54 Routemaster bus, the venue was full early and remained packed for the whole day.

held fort on the terrace and middle room throughout, with a cracking lineup, whilst brought the heat by night in the club, after sister party resident and co-founder and had warmed things up nicely in the club.

The next UOTR is on Bank Holiday Sunday with bdf favourite - Mr - we have got 100 tickets available for just £5 via the comments below as a post BDF treat. We hope you can join us!

For the last 3 years, our stage .village has become one of the focal points of the festival. Curated, hosted and managed by our good friends, Handson Family (Cyndi Anafo & Chris Ellis, the stage has seen the likes of and alongside a host of local DJ talent, and of course Cyndi and Chris.

They have been DJing and promoting primarily independent music for over two decades.

Passionate about South London’s legacy of Black music club culture and the community they were raised in, HF have turned their hands to many creative ventures beyond DJing including sound creation, booking artists, client tailored events, running pop up spaces and social media content management.

We are very much looking forward to having them as part of the team again on Saturday, along with their lineup...

🪩 The Brixton Disco Bus! Number 54 🪩

The stroll between our newest festival venue, and central Brixton, is only around 10 minutes. However, to help join the dots between it all and for something we have wanted to do at the festival for some time, we have decided to bring in a very special classic London Routemaster Bus to run a shuttle service up and down the Brixton Road for festival ticketholders!

You can expect a disco soundtrack on board and hopefully some familiar names over the tannoy!

More detail to follow next week and via our website 🔗

🪩 Mr Good Times 🪩

Mr Good Times himself, Norman Jay MBE, has developed a strong affiliation with his residency with sister party over the last 12 years, so bringing him into the fold for Brixton Disco Festival was long overdue back in 2022. He has performed for his good friends over the last 2 years, as well as at our inaugural year last year.

This year Norman will be with Faith once again, this time … as well as a second set that we will be announcing next week, at BDF on Saturday 4 May.

We can’t wait…

Jocelyn Brown - the story of a disco icon.

Jocelyn was born into a musical family and was raised in a gospel environment. Barely 20 years old, she'd already made herself a reputation as a first-rate session singer and did backing vocals on John Lennon's 'Imagine' and Disco Tex & the Sex-O-Lettes, but Jocelyn's claim to fame came with the disco era.

She sang on Musique's 'Keep On Jumpin'' album - producer Patrick Adams was impressed by her vocal power and soon made her lead singer for the studio ensemble Inner Life with whom Jocelyn recorded three albums 1979-82, yielding massive club hits with "I'm Caught Up in a One Way Love Affair", an upbeat version of "Ain't no Mountain High Enough", and the gospel-tingled "The Moment of My Life".

In 1984, Brown released a number of singles in her own name, including "Somebody Else's Guy", which she co-wrote, reaching #2 on the Billboard R&B Singles chart in the US, and became the title track of her first album, released that same year.

Jocelyn has continued to record through the 21st century. She toured with Boy George worldwide with Culture Club in 1985 and appeared on their 1986 album, 'From Luxury to Heartache'.

In 1990, the line "I've got the power" was sampled from her 1985 dance hit, "Love's Gonna Get You" by Snap! for their worldwide hit, "The Power" as well as hip hop group Boogie Down Productions on their single "Love's Gonna Get'cha (Material Love)" and was the basis for the UK top 3 hit "I'm Gonna Get You" by Bizarre Inc. featuring Angie Brown. Jocelyn also appeared on Right Said Fred's "Don't Talk Just Kiss" and in 1994, and George Michael sampled her song Somebody Else's Guy in his dance hit 'Too Funky'.

1990's 'Always There' with Incognito was another chart hit in the UK, as were her back to back singles with Todd Terry, a reprisal of the Musique hit 'Keep On Jumpin' as well as "Somethin' Going On" along with Martha Wash.

Her vocal appearances on the 2 lead Nuyorican Soul tracks from "It's Alright, I Feel It!" and "I Am the Black Gold of the Sun" for Louie Vega and Kenny Dope, have stood the test of time as well as anything she has done.

Just under 2 weeks before she joins us!

🎧 Rooty Soundsystem 🪩

The legendary 'Rooty' parties were held in Brixton back in the early 2000s. Basement Jaxx's Felix Buxton and Simon Ratcliffe ran their eponymous club nights in the late 90s at a variety of now defunct Brixton venues including George IV on Brixton Hill and The Junction (Loughborough Junction). From that, 'Rooty' was born. Felix along with Tayo and Frank Tope were the creators of these legendary Soundsystem parties.

Taking place predominantly at the now closed Telegraph pub on Brixton Hill (slide 2 - now a nursery), Rooty developed legendary status in a very short time (see slides 3, 4 and 5) before ending it's run before it ate itself, clubbing cult legend intact. One of the last parties was at Brockwell Lido (slide 6). The legend was so strong that the name of Basement Jaxx's 2nd album used the same name.

Tayo and Frank have very kindly put together a playlist for us of Rooty Soundsystem classics, some great Friday listening, link in bio! 🔗

Frank and Tayo have since become regulars for us over the years, and we are happy to them back again for Brixton Disco Festival 2024, this time performing on the .village stage for
