THE SHOW
Shakespeare hasn't written anything new for an age, so we thought we would give him a hand... Using his language, your audience suggestions, and our overactive imaginations, we create a brand-new Shakespeare play live on stage, complete with live music, songs, and plenty of laughs. At a ShakeItUp show, you get to help our intrepid improvisors make up an entirely new Shakespeare play on the spot! Pick your authentic Shakespearean genre, then sit back and watch the hilarity unfold as we improvise a totally authentic (and totally bonkers) play that W***y Shakes himself would be proud of! Accompanied by improvised song and music from our talented ShakeItUp Band.

THE SHOW
SHOWINGS AT 2 PM & 4 PM
Adapting the 1806 Wiliam Roscoe poem 'The Butterfly’s Ball and the Grasshoppers Feast' the Ugly Bugs Wingding takes inspiration from a diorama pop-up book style, using 2D painted puppets similar to Wayang puppetry and concertina techniques in a fold out toy theatre-esque set. Beautifully hand painted scenes, all made on re-purposed materials which come alive with live music, verse and interaction throughout the show. Mini-beast puppet and poem creation workshops available, a 30 min pre-or post-show offer for participants and audiences to become part of the process in creating their own Ugly Bugs Wingding character to bring to the Ball. An excellent way to introduce the writing of verse using Acrostic poetry and simple paper puppets to take home.

THE SHOW
In her fantasies she is an imprisoned pensioner who rescues fellow passengers from crashed aeroplanes. In reality she is a bit of a hoarder who likes Greek islands. On the journey you will take in rhubarb, (not) climbing Everest, suitcases, soft-closing kitchen drawers, squirrels, and comic injuries. And you’ll find out why Brenda’s final words will definitely be ‘But I haven’t finished yet!’.

THE SHOW
The true story of one woman's mission to answer the question "can kindness change the world? " by carrying out an act of kindness for a total stranger every day for 366 days. Involving cakes, compliments, phone boxes and Billy Bragg teaching her how to play "The Milkman of Human Kindness" in a cupboard at the BBC. This is a comedy about how, despite what we are told about the state of the world, there is more love than hate, more hope than fear, more good than bad. THE SHOW
The world keeps throwing curveballs; the best-laid plans are thrown into chaos, and Jonny's plans are rarely that. Stand-up poet, storyteller and lo-fi theatremaker Jonny Fluffypunk is back with a show about finding the hero inside yourself, without involving M-People. Inspired by lockdowns, ancient myths, and Grayson Perry's Art Club, it's a celebration of our tiny victories; it's about love and strength and finding some sort of meaning. By turns funny, absurd, and touching, there's a pilgrimage across London with a dead dog, the tragedy of throwing your childhood home into a skip, and an epiphany beside a derelict canal. What it's really about is us fragile humans, and the ways we find to cope with it all.

The History of Pierremont Hall

The History

Built in 1785 as a private residence, Pierremont Hall has been home to many and is now open to the community for public and private events. The building is Grade II Listed, located in the heart of town. This newly renovated building is a beacon of history, showcasing the towns historical character. The Hall was built in 1785 for Thomas Forsyth and designed by Samuel Pepys Cockerell. The Duchess of Kent and a young Princess Victoria holidayed at Pierremont in 1826 – 1836. It knew various owners until its sale in 1896 to Leonard Posnett who used it as a school. Most of the original 30 acres of land were developed as housing and the building and remaining park were sold to the Urban District Council in 1927.

War

Pierremont Hall holds many secret gems on the town’s history. Beneath the grounds of the Hall lays an air raid shelter, designed to hold 150 people who would have accessed the shelters through tunnels all around Broadstairs town, sheltering council employees and the community during raids.
